Submission Rules

by Magical Maeve @ 07/27/07 4:03
Just a quick note to all our new authors who may not be as familiar with the workings of the site as our old hands.

Please make sure you read the submission rules carefully before you even think about submitting your chapter. We have rules about things like chapter word count that some of you are not following. Our other major issue at the moment is category submissions. We are seeing a lot of multi-category submissions and submissions to categories that are master categories rather than actual categories - mainly the Romance category.

For those struggling with romance category selection here's a quick run through(although this is also relevant to other categories, but it's romance we are having the most issues with). Highlight the romance category in the category selection drop down menu. Once you have done that the drop down menu will change and reveal all the romance sub-categories. You then need to click on the drop down menu and select the appropriate sub-category. Only when the sub-category is highlighted in the catgeory selection box do you hit select. There should now be a category in the larger box below the drop down menu. If there is more than one category showing then you have done it incorrectly and you need to clear the form and start again.

Please help us to help you. It takes time to reject stories that are incorrectly submitted, time that could be spent on stories that are where they should be. If we all work together the queue should be a happy place for us all to be. :-)

Please either click on Staff to the left, which lists the mods and their categories, or on the forums under announcements, there is a list of who mods what.

Just a quick question: I submitted a story that wasn't Post-Hogwarts, Marauder era, etc etc, so I put it in the General main category. Does that mean It'll get rejected? And, if so, where should I put a generic trio-cenric story?

myownmuggle written on 07/31/07 12:40

General is just that, general. Most stories in that category have all different elements in them but are not particularly suited to a narrower category.

As for a generic trio-centeric story, you will need to categorize it accordingly to the era in which it is set or the romantic pairings involved, etc. The same as you would any other story.

It's quite simple folks, read the submission rules. Look at stories in a category you are considering submitting to. Then look at your own story and use your best judgement as to which category to put it in.

As a side note to myownmuggle's post above, when I'm modding, I'll suggest to an author if I think their story would be better suited to another category in order to attract a better readership. Just use your best judgment, submit it to only one category, and you should be fine.

Just to clarify, I believe that romance and contest submissions are the only categories where you NEED to choose a subcategory when you submit. If 'general' is the most fitting, that's perfectly fine. However, a fic submitted to 'romance' will be rejected on the spot.

Phoenix5225- (sorry for any missing "a's" key is not working properly)
i am aware of the fact that beta readers don't "guarentee a story's acceptance." I commented on this thread after noticing tht my fic was gone. Also, I did not check my info only that once. I am a "religious" emailer and check that along with anything else that i subscribe to on MORE than a daily basis(myspace, MUGGLENET etc...) and doing so over more than a month is what caused my "stress". I'm sorry for the tension and anger but i just wanted to get my point across and like I said," I commented on this thread after noticing tht my fic was gone." so i was moderately angry when commenting.

Thanks!

I posted a story last night and today I looked in my stories and it was gone. I have checked both my email account and my junk e-mail, i have no messages. Did I delete this somehow and if not do you always get an email bac or not?

myownmuggle written on 08/01/07 14:52

Jameswys: Your story was deleted because it was submitted to multiple categories. As has been noted several times in this thread, PLEASE read the submission rules and the instructions for selecting categories as posted by Magical Maeve in this news post. Multiple category submissions are an AUTOMATIC rejection.

Question: How does one go about adding an image (such as a banner) to thier author's page? I've tried both "[ ]" and "< >" tags around IMG but none have worked. I've also hosted the image from a site and all that. I've done it before but for the life of me I can't remember how. I'd really appreciate help.
Thanks,
Trixie Vixie

harry_victoria written on 08/04/07 6:43

Trixie Vixie, You dont use the IMG tag, you have to use the a href= tag instead. that one always works. Good Luck!

Marauder by Midnight written on 08/04/07 15:31

Erm... no you do use the IMG tag.

Only replace the [] with "< >"

If you Google image html, you'll get the code you need.

Trixie Vixie written on 08/05/07 0:26

Oh, okay. Thanks a bunch!

Chompysj written on 08/05/07 16:04

How long does it take for a story to be validated?

Marauder by Midnight written on 08/05/07 17:12

Chompysj - as few as half a day and as long as ten days. If your story has been in queue for more than ten days, contact the moderator in charge of your category.

HOWEVER, note that if you edited your chapter while it was still in queue, your chapter will be resubmitted, and you may need to wait another ten days.
