Submission Rules

by Magical Maeve @ 07/27/07 4:03
Just a quick note to all our new authors who may not be as familiar with the workings of the site as our old hands.

Please make sure you read the submission rules carefully before you even think about submitting your chapter. We have rules about things like chapter word count that some of you are not following. Our other major issue at the moment is category submissions. We are seeing a lot of multi-category submissions and submissions to categories that are master categories rather than actual categories - mainly the Romance category.

For those struggling with romance category selection here's a quick run through(although this is also relevant to other categories, but it's romance we are having the most issues with). Highlight the romance category in the category selection drop down menu. Once you have done that the drop down menu will change and reveal all the romance sub-categories. You then need to click on the drop down menu and select the appropriate sub-category. Only when the sub-category is highlighted in the catgeory selection box do you hit select. There should now be a category in the larger box below the drop down menu. If there is more than one category showing then you have done it incorrectly and you need to clear the form and start again.

Please help us to help you. It takes time to reject stories that are incorrectly submitted, time that could be spent on stories that are where they should be. If we all work together the queue should be a happy place for us all to be. :-)

you know the beta thing? i've been thinking about it, and we get the beta readers from exactly where?... i've seen the PI beta one, but they only said Fiction Alley and something about a Phoenix, and i went to the beta board but it came out blank except for a few words which has links and the links linked me back to the same page which was pretty useless. (im not a little confused, im seriously confused X_X) oh, by the way, if the romance comes in later, so it's mostly no romance THEN romance, it's classified under romance, right? *bites lip* [sorry, i'm a real klutz in computer stuff, i've read the submission rules loads of times, still cant get somethings straight =X sorry to bother you!)

I submitted the first chapter of my new fanfic some days ago. In fact, it was on August 4th. It's August 13th. It's been 9 days already (I'm waiting for tomorrow so I can e-mail one of the mods and ask them), more than 7! *bites lip and taps the laptop nervously* I think that my fic was in an acceptable state, but I'm thinking about finding a beta-reader. Spell-check isn't everything.

To cairyangel -- I'm almost certain it goes under romance, but I'm no mod, so I wouldn't know. About the betas... I have no idea about them either.

Hello Mods

One question. Several times, when I've tried to submit a story, I've clicked 'Add Story', and then there's a page which comes up, telling me to log in. The thing is, I'm always already logged in!

It's happened to loads of my friends, too. After we go back and do the whole thing again loads of times, it finally stops happening after a while, but it's getting kind of annoying because it happens every time we submit a chapter. Any idea what causes this?

Thanks

You're doing a great job on the site, by the way.

Love

Madam P

To Madam Puddifoot Oh yeah, that happens to me too! But it's only happened when I go to edit my personal information (when I wrote my bio; it's huge and therefore it took some time). I spent some time writing my bio and when I pressed submit I had logged out! It was incredibly infuriating.

And I'm not sure, but I think that it's happened to me while I added a story as well. Oh well... I think it's because we spend so much time in our account area that it just sort of logs off so that it knows that it's really the username there and not some creep who used the page when the real user went to the bathroom or something.

Anyway, it's almost the 10th day! >_< My god, I've been waiting for the e-mail for ages. I see all those fics being approved and chapters after chapters being validated and mine keeps appearing 'Validated: No'

It's a humor fic, so I don't know if that has to do with anything, but...

Madam Puddifoot written on 08/14/07 9:49

Katrin4p, I'm SO with you on the whole 'waiting for validation' thing! I can't believe some people are lucky enough to have the stories validated in HALF A DAY! Hell - wouldn't life be great if that's how it was for everybody!

Oh yeah, and I've found a way past that 'Please log in' thing. Every time that comes up, just click 'back.' All your writing will still be there, just click 'submit' or 'add story' or whatever again. If it still doesn't work, do it a couple of times and eventually it will work. It's a pain, but it's a lot less effort than doing the whole thing a million times!

katrin4p written on 08/14/07 10:21

Really?! I can't believe I lost my perfect bio (even though the new one I wrote yesterday is better) because of that, when all I had to do was just go Back! Ugh! And yes, waiting for validation for 10 days or maybe more and seeing all those other fics being updated everyday... It kind of bruises your ego XD Makes you wonder if your fic is that bad that no one wants to be cruel enough to reject it! Thanks for the tip! ^_^

Madam Puddifoot written on 08/14/07 10:31

No probs

cairyangel written on 08/14/07 19:21

okay... so does anyone know how to get a beta reader and where to get it from? (this was my above question, i just shortened it..) i haven't updated my bio, i don't really know what to type.... hmm, maybe i should just copy one i wrote in friend's autograph book :P

katrin4p written on 08/15/07 4:32

Oh I know! Go to PI Beta Readers, search, select what you want... It worked for me! (Even though I ended up not contacting any beta reader.) It's easy.

Type about yourself, what you thought of the book... I only wanted to make this really short bio but I ended up making it a VERY long one. VERY, VERY, VERY long one. So long that it hurt. And now I find myself not wanting to change it -.- or shorten it.

Madam Puddifoot written on 08/17/07 6:13

Does anyone else think that the avatar of Salazaar Slytherin on the beta forums is well sexy?

Or am I just weird?

bob moore written on 08/21/07 15:35

I am new, I can't seem to figure out if you submit a story in say, humor, can you resubmit it for one of the challenges? Or must it be submitted for a challenge only?

ps... Ifound a beta pretty easily through the PI Beta link. She is great.
