Okay, everyone, I have a question, and it may seem like a bit of a dumb one, but I'm pretty new to this whole Fan Fiction thing, so... Please bear with me. Anyway, my question is this: I've recently been reading loads of stories submitted to all sorts of special challenges and competitions. Do notices for these challenges/competitions come up when you enter Mugglenet Fanfiction (if they're occurring at that time, of course)? And if they don't, how do people know about them to enter them? And, when they are running, does a new category or something come up to submit your stories under? If anyone has the answer for me I would be really grateful to hear it. Thanks x

thanks!

Madam Puddifoot - Check out the MNFF forums and get sorted if you're interested in finding out about all sorts of challenges that are offered there. Once you're sorted, check the 'Great Hall' forum.

Cheers Lily_Evans34, I'll have a look. Appreciated x

"is this site for the fans or the modorators???"

Since this question is asked fairly often, and seems to miss a crucial third option: It's for the readers. We would be perfectly happy to have a 100% validation rate if all the submissions were perfectly proofed, well-written, submitted to a single findable category, unique, and free of cliche. If you happen to like bad spelling and a ton of cliches presented unclearly, there are other websites to read and post on. Harry Potter fanfiction is currently the largest segment of the fanfiction world, I'm told. Our site exists to serve those who prefer fanfiction of a tolerably high literary standard.

In other words, you don't have to be evil to mod here, but it helps. And the readers, who outnumber the writers by a good ten to one, appreciate it.

Katrin: Thak you!! :) Two more days till it's been ten days!

When I wrote that comment I certainly did not intent to exclude readers in fact i was including them in the fan categlory and IF mods want to look at things with at least less spelling errors i have 2 suggestions 1 attacch a spell check feature to the text box you are required to submit your fic into and 2 attatch instructions to the browse function (button) that one would reasonably assume would let you up load it from a word or other program and/or tell people what it's used for since you are dealing with people on this site as young as 13 kids who may not have ever seen anything like this before because it's the first one they are allowed to visit to say nothing of the older crowd who may hardly know how to use the internet or their PC plus you have a world wide audience some of whom may be unfamilar with all the things stated above as well as format and a host of other things i can neither think of nor find space for here. And of course the readers out number the writers... gee I wonder why? And if it helps to be "evil" when you mod here perhaps MNFF dosen't need new posted messages but new mods (no offence intended to the ones who would never write a comment like the sentece above that contains the word evil) And if this question keeps comming up should't that tell the mods something? further what i appreciate, i'm sure along with many others is a site that is freindly to both readers and writers yet more and more it seems the latter is lacking largely do to the tech issues stated in this comment and others given in regards to this post. And shouldn't the readers be the judge of what they want to read what sounds bad a chiche to one may not to another!

Vindictus Viridian written on 08/16/07 22:29

The readers do indeed judge. They come here, or they don't. If you have a good look at the directions (wise when you submit any work anywhere) you will see that you are advised to save your file to Word rather than type it directly. Sadly, some people do not. You will also find advice to not only spell-check but to use a second reader to make sure the words you use are the correct word spelled correctly, since spell-check won't catch that. Sadly, some people do not do these things either. We do not post their work, generally. Likewise, if the sentences are incomplete or the formatting is incorrect, well, maybe someone's dreams are being trampled, but that story is still not going up.

In general, we expect writers to respect their readers. This includes readers of news posts. If you wish to discuss this further, my email is readily available for exactly the same amount of work as the site guidelines and the terms of service. This is a privately-run site which reserves the right to determine the rules and standards. Anyone who dislikes them is welcome to go looking for some other set.

Does anyone else think that the avatar of Salazaar Slytherin on the beta forums is well sexy?

Or am I just weird?

katrin4p written on 08/17/07 7:42

Where's the avatar? (Have you been sorted already, by the way??)

harry_victoria written on 08/17/07 7:57

wait, there's a beta forum? Where's that?!?!

katrin4p written on 08/17/07 8:05

harry_victoria, it's the forums! On the right, where's the 'account info', 'staff', yada yada, there's 'forum'. Go there. (LOL and get sorted.)

harry_victoria written on 08/17/07 8:54

oh thanx!!!

Noldo written on 08/17/07 8:59

Please keep the comments section on-topic! As lovely as that avatar might or mightn't be, this isn't the place for that sort of discussion -- take it to email, or IM. If you have anything to say about this news post and its content, though, do carry on.

Madam Puddifoot written on 08/17/07 9:25

Yeah, okay mate... Sorry...

Madam Puddifoot written on 08/19/07 9:42

Please help Mods!
I've forgotten what date I submitted Chapter Two of my story. As I have no idea whether it's been in the queue for two days or twenty, I'm not sure whether to contact the Mod-in-charge of my section or not. Can anybody help? Please? :( (Sorry for being such a pain in the neck, by the way. I love you all really.)

harry_victoria written on 08/19/07 16:09

The longest it should be in the queue is ten days. After 10, you can notify the mods asking them what's up.

hexgirl6193 written on 08/19/07 16:54

how do you notify the mods? my story was submitted 7 days ago and still nothing. i already have the next 6 chapters finished and i really want to submit them. again, how do you notify the mods? HELP

ix3thehpseries written on 08/19/07 18:11

Does anyone know why I cant read the 6th-7th year or professor fics? I'm old enough but whenever I try to read one of those stories nothing happens. And also how do you contact the mods? My story was submitted eleven days ago and nothing has happened yet.Help?

Phoenix5225 written on 08/19/07 18:57

ix3thehpseries - click on account info on the left, then on edit personal information. Make sure the box about being of age is checked yes.

You can contact the mod in charge of your cat by clicking on staff then the mod name, then contact. Please only do it if your story has been ten days or more.
