Queue Troubles

by Anasuya @ 01/04/08 18:34
As some of you may have noticed, there are some problems with certain categories and subcategories when you try to submit stories. Unfortunately, the hacker attack has had an impact here at MNFF too, and we are unable to access certain controls needed to fix the problems. We don't know how long they will last but we'll keep you updated.

We're very sorry for the troubles this has caused and thank you all for your continued support.

EDIT: Unfortunately, due to the hacker situation, we're unable to access any of our staff emails. This includes individual mod emails and also the site staff email. If you've emailed a mod recently and haven't got a reply, this is why. If you're in desperate need of mod attention, please try PMing us over the forums.

Ohhh..... this would probably explain why I keep getting emails many times over regarding updates to a favourite story of mine.

Good luck getting it all straightened out.

Is it possible that the hackers might have interfeired with the beta boards and private messages? I don't seem to be getting any of my messages lately.

Roxy Black written on 01/06/08 17:29

They shouldn't have affected the beta boards as I believe they run on a different system. I'll try and look into the problem for you, however validation messages go straight to your email, not your PM inbox, so check your junk folder if you're expecting one of those.

I know that everyone is a bit upset over the hacking (your exuberance is showing, for sure) but let's try to keep the spammy comments to a minimum, ok? Thanks guys and thank you for sitting tight while we try to get this sorted out. We endlessly appreciate the support.

I'm still unable to submit anything. I thought I might be able to sneak past the hacker's infringements because I use a Mac, but I guess it doesn't matter. Oh well, leaves me time to edit stuff and finish more chapters in advance. Is there any way to e-mail submissions?

Magical Maeve written on 01/07/08 8:46

Sorry, submissions cannot be sent by email. Hopefully this will be fixed for you soon.

If the mods are having trouble sending emails, does this include validation/rejection letters?

Really strange: I submitted a story two days ago (by hitting the preview button like the others) and it showed up in the queue, just saying it wasn't validated yet.
And now it's completely gone. o.0

Roxy Black written on 01/07/08 14:35

dumbledorefluertwins - it is possible that the problem could be affecting these letters, however as far as I know this hasn't become an issue yet, if you're missing a letter, check your junk mail folder or post in the thread on the beta forums.

Englaroma - It sounds like your fiction got into the queue and has been rejected, check your email for a rejection letter. If it's not there, try posting in the Beta forums 'I didn't recieve a rejection letter' thread or hiring a beta to correct your errors before trying again.

Four days ago, I submitted a humor story in its category and it still hasn't been validated, yet it's still on my Manage Stories. However, I noticed that since the queu has been re-opened, there haven't been any stories in humor category. Is there a problem with it?

dumbledorefluertwins written on 01/07/08 15:17

I'm not missing a rejection letter, but I was just wondering. ;)

Thank you for clarifying! :D

Stupid, evil, mean, retarted hackers. why would they attack mugglenet anyway?!

Angel of Dreams written on 01/07/08 16:50

Fan websites get hit a lot by spiteful hackers, especially ones with the presence of Mugglenet. A lot of people don't like Harry Potter, and thus they take out their frustrations on sites like this. Furthermore, hackers have hit other fan websites as well in the past few weeks. Considering the relative instability of the Mugglenet server (no offense, but it does tend to be a bit shaky), it wouldn't have been too difficult for hackers to slip in dangerous code and knock down the site.
As for why they'd do it... likely spite. They don't care how many people they affect, and getting angry with them only serves to gratify their childlike behavior.

anath - If your story appears under 'Manage Stories' and hasn't been validated, that means it's in queue and has not been moderated yet. New stories haven't appeared in humor yet because no one has moderated it yet. Please be patient.

bondman007 written on 01/07/08 21:00

How about this: I post my story on fanfiction.net, I PM one of the mods with a link to said story, and the mod in question goes over the story, and if it's all peachy, they can copy/paste it into here?

bondman007 written on 01/07/08 22:01

Scratch that, I want to put it through a PI beta's paces before I submit it anywhere. Hopefully everything will have righted itself by then. Did you try Geeks on Call? Or is this site based outside of the US?

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/07/08 22:44

bondman007 - Your idea of submitting it to fanfiction.net first and then having us copy/paste it here will not work. The problem is temporary, and we're counting on your patience to help us along the way. As for Geeks on Call, I don't think they can help us as this is neither a computer nor network problem. Thank you for your suggestions though :)
