MNFF Cleaning

by Anasuya @ 01/10/08 15:17
As you've noticed recently, there have been quite a few glitches with stories, emails etc. Some were due to the hacker attack, yet others are due to the sheer size of MNFF. We're outgrowing our database. To help relieve some pressure, we're going to be purging old usernames and inactive accounts.

Please read the following VERY CAREFULLY

ONLY accounts that have had no activity for the past 6 months will be deleted. Activity can be generally defined by logging in. So if you've logged into MNFF in the past 6 months, your account will NOT be deleted. This includes the Remember Me feature. If MNFF remembers you and you've been online in the past 6 months, your account is safe.

As long as you have a story on MNFF, your account will NOT be deleted. Only accounts without stories and without activity will be purged.

If you're in doubt about your account or would like to keep it, simply log in. That will keep it safe.

This will be happening sometime within the next week or two. I will make another post right before it happens.

Also, in order to relieve some more stress on the database, we will be doing an abandoned story purge in the near future (within the next month). However, if you know of a story that you will not be completing, we would be very grateful if you took the liberty of deleting it yourself. It will save us all some time and our servers will thank you for it.

Again, I can't stress how wonderful and patient you've all been. We're working hard to correct everything and you all are making it much easier on us by understanding. Thank you.

kreacher, since you have obviously logged in within the last six months (as you had to log in to leave a comment), your account will not be deleted.

Wow that darn hacker really messed things up worse than I thought he/she had. Grr! But anyways, good luck mods with the clean out! I sincerely hope that everything that has gone wrong recently is fixed very soon and things can finally go back to normal.

pike007 written on 01/11/08 13:55

i dunno whether its a glitch or what, but iv recieved three, yes THREE emails saying that one of my favourites has been updated, and the link opens and it says that you guys havnt validated it yet!

pike007 written on 01/11/08 14:18

oh yeah, the story in question is You Want To Make A Memory? by Potter chapter 31. Questionable Interests thanks

songbook99 written on 01/11/08 14:31

pike007, we are aware of the problem with that chapter. It is one of those which has gotten stuck in the queue and has to be handled by the administrators.

I hope everything gets fixed soon!! MNFF is the best sit around in my opinion. :D

I'm having problems with my story, I can't choose a catagory, is this a temporary thing thats happening so that ya'll get rid of some things, or is it a problem ya'll are trying to get rid of. Either way, is there a way I can work around it? Thank you!, -Mollie

songbook99 written on 01/11/08 15:46

MissMolliewobbles, that is a problem that has been occurring since the hacker attack. We are working on fixing it.

Wow, I thought that Mugglenet was sort of dying because nobody's really updating and they're ending Mugglecast. Guess I was wrong, and I'm glad I am!!! Long Live Mugglenet!
-Susan
PS: Will you be sending emails to people if you're deleting their profile?

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/11/08 16:26

GinnyPotter808 - We will not be sending emails to the people who will have their accounts deleted. It is an automated system.

Nevilles Girl written on 01/11/08 16:28

Are the mods able to edit the category a story is in? I accidently put my piece in "Winter Tales Challenge" instead of "By the Fireside" and I can't change it.

Malika Potter written on 01/11/08 16:46

I have a story that I like ALOT but I have a case of writer's block and have been unable to post a chaper for some time. It has over 100 reviews. Will it be deleted just becuase I haven't posted any new chapters in a long time? (I did put a message on it saying it was discontinued, mostly becuase I can't seem to get another chapter written)

songbook99 written on 01/11/08 17:12

Nevilles Girl, unfortunately we (the mods) are currently unable to access the editing option.

Malika Potter, any author with a work in progress that does not show an update in the last six months will receive an email before anything is done with the story. All you have to do to keep your story on the archive is respond to the email letting us know that you have not abandoned the story.

Katie616 written on 01/11/08 18:16

Thank you to the mods! They've obviously been working really hard to get things up again, and I am glad!

It's good to know that we'll be up and running soon, and that hopefully everyone will be happy again.
Hooray!
Katie

What the heck!? I gotta get my story updated ASAP! You know what they say, "Desperate times call for desperate measures..." I dunno, though; now that DH is out, it just isn't worth putting up the rest of my story, but I promised so many people... grrrrr, Well, the good news is that I have it posted on another site, so I won't have to worry... I got plenty of plot bunnies running around, though.

bondman007 written on 01/12/08 0:33

Love_Hope_Freedom and Pottergirl: Relax. You're both fine. As long as you've updated the story in the last 6 months, your stories won't be touched. If you haven't, you'll get an email, and all you have to do to keep your story on the site is reply saying you haven't abandoned it

Love_Hope_Freedom: If you don't have any stories added at all, don't fret. You obviously had to log in to post this comment, so you're safe.

Man, I should be a mod!

pheonix_song_719 written on 01/12/08 0:52

Does this mean that even If I have logged in and I have no stories on that I am going to be kicked off? The only reason why I ask is that you guys never like my stories when I send in a chapter. Thats okay and All but I faithfully come on Mugglenet, nearly every day. So if I have no story am I going to be deleted? Because I have no I dea how many times I have submitted my story and it has gotten denied. And I have gotten the needed Betas and stuff and nothing seems to work. PLEASE DONT Delete my account :(:(:(!!!!!

Garyesta written on 01/12/08 0:52

i'm glad it's all recovering. but what if i don't have any stories yet, just an account, but i log in frequently?
