MNFF Cleaning

As you've noticed recently, there have been quite a few glitches with stories, emails etc. Some were due to the hacker attack, yet others are due to the sheer size of MNFF. We're outgrowing our database. To help relieve some pressure, we're going to be purging old usernames and inactive accounts.

Please read the following VERY CAREFULLY

ONLY accounts that have had no activity for the past 6 months will be deleted. Activity can be generally defined by logging in. So if you've logged into MNFF in the past 6 months, your account will NOT be deleted. This includes the Remember Me feature. If MNFF remembers you and you've been online in the past 6 months, your account is safe.

As long as you have a story on MNFF, your account will NOT be deleted. Only accounts without stories and without activity will be purged.

If you're in doubt about your account or would like to keep it, simply log in. That will keep it safe.

This will be happening sometime within the next week or two. I will make another post right before it happens.

Also, in order to relieve some more stress on the database, we will be doing an abandoned story purge in the near future (within the next month). However, if you know of a story that you will not be completing, we would be very grateful if you took the liberty of deleting it yourself. It will save us all some time and our servers will thank you for it.

Again, I can't stress how wonderful and patient you've all been. We're working hard to correct everything and you all are making it much easier on us by understanding. Thank you.

Marauder by Midnight - That is a VERY useful website-thanks!! Although you don't usually see "M-nineteen-eleven-A-one" written when you write about the standard service pistol for the US Army for almost 90 years-or any gun, for that matter. It would just look out of place if I did that (that is, if I chose the venerable M1911A1 to be Harry's only defense against the wild and crazy Muggle world-I am seriously considering it, for our hero deserves no less, for it is a fine weapon-why do you think Special Forces still uses it?) Anyway, I'm getting off-track here. Back to brainstorming!!

iv got a couple of stories in my favourites that havent been updated for 6 months will they be deleted from my favourites or will i have to do it myself? also one one them has a notice, "story put on hold" so will that one be deleted?

pike007, the deletion of those stories will depend on the authors. The authors will be contacted and they can let us know if they do not want the stories removed from our database. If the authors do not let us know they want the stories kept, the stories will be removed.

pike007 - If those stories are deleted, they will be deleted from your list automatically. And the story you are referring to will be deleted if the author does not respond to our email.

I like comming hear and reading the stories. I am not a writer but I do come in here every once in a while. I am a older reader 42 years of age. One think that may help is if a person has an account and wants to keep it that when their 6 months is about to expire then you send then a notification letter. I come online once every 3 months or so so if I didn't happen to come to this web site, I would not have known about about this new rule. I like coming to this site but I don't want to write a bad story in order to keep my information on tact. Please think about it.

TheDivaDivine - I assure you we are thinking about that. We know that there are a lot of members on our site who are not authors and wish to keep their accounts. This is why we are hoping to delete the accounts that have not been used in the past six months as that is half a year, and most active members would be online more than this. We would like to send our members notification emails, but as we have such a large site with 100,000+ members, our system would not cope with sending that many letters. We are putting a lot of careful consideration into how we go about this, so don't feel we'll be deleting anyones account without prior thought. And if all else fails, there is nothing to stop the creation of a new account if your old one disappears. Obviously, yours will not disappear as you have clearly logged in within the last six months, you're here today.

To all mods who manage the Romance category:
I previously submitted a story into the queue last Sunday, the 13th. I seem to remember someone telling me that stories usually take 4-5 days to go through the queue. Are the stories taking longer due to the problems we're having, or should I expect a result before the week is out?

I apologize profusely for splitting my comments into two *kisses Roxy Black's feet* but I addressed that last comment to the mods who manage the Romance category because the story in question is, indeed, one of love, between the most perfect (canon-based) pairings in the history of literature: Harry James Potter and Ginevra Molly Weasley

frack frack FRACK I keep forgetting to put things in posts on here!! Sorry Roxy! For modly reference, the story is, as of this time (6:08 PM by the site clock) still in my Manage Stories section, and under Validated, it says No.
