Cleaning Continued

by Anasuya @ 01/15/08 17:36
Hey all

As per my last post, we're going to be starting our username purge, but due to some queue troubles, we'll be doing it manually. All this means is that it will take a bit longer and that we might need a bit more cooperation from you all.

First, I would like to stress again that ANY profile with a story under it WILL NOT be deleted. So if you have a story, please don't worry. Starting tonight, we will be sending out emails to users who don't have stories and whose profiles seem to not be in use. If you don't have any stories on MNFF but would like to keep your account and you'd like to help us out a bit, please edit the following at the top of your author page bio:

Please do not delete

If we see this, we promise that we will not delete your account.

Now as much as we might try, there may be an accident or two along the way. If your profile is accidentally deleted, you may of course sign up again with the same username. Your reviews will not be deleted. We will try to avoid this at all costs, of course, but sometimes accidents happen.

And again, we'd like to stress that if you have a story that you know you won't be finishing, we ask you to remove it to relieve some stress on the database.

Lastly, we'd like to thank you all for all your support and your understanding. MNFF is a great community and we want to keep it around as long as possible and this wouldn't be possible without your continued loyalty.

Thank you.

Nevilles Girl - Taken care of :) Thanks for letting us know! It saves us a lot of time!

InvisibleAparecium written on 01/21/08 12:31

I have another account, like Nevilles Girl, that I would like deleted. The username is 'Got_Harry_152'.

Love all!

People have spare accounts? Why's that? If anyone's wondering, I'm not abandning "Music Box Spell," I just got somenoe to help me look it over (Thank you Bondman--you are my hero, my knight in shining armor!) I'm looking forward to posting my next chapter, and rewriting all my other chapters (Extreme Makeover: Fanfiction Edition!) If you need me, I'll be here!

InvisibleAparecium - Taken care of :)

Pottergirl - People have spare accounts for different reasons, though it is prohibited.

Is the hacking problem and overloaded database causing some chapters to be unable to be read because of "not being approved by the administrators"?

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/21/08 22:16

siriusblack1440 - Nope. Those chapters are, in fact, not approved by administrators. Wait until the chapter has been validated before reading please. This probably happens because you receive an email when an author updates his/her story. Updating is not the same as validating.

I think I just about put please do not delete on my whole page lol. Just to be safe I am going to try to repost my story. Thanks much! Love you guys!

romancefan written on 01/22/08 11:16

This sort of goes with siriusblack1440's question. I did receive an email about one of my favorite stories being updated and in fact there were new chapters validated and ready to read. But, it never showed up on the "most recent" pages. I checked on a fw of my other favorites and found they had been updated and not on the most recent as well. Just curious.

myownmuggle written on 01/22/08 11:22

As previously stated by several moderators, those emails are automatically generated when a story is updated, not validated. So the emails go out when the author adds a chapter, not when the mods validate it.

romancefan written on 01/22/08 13:26

That part I get. The part I don't get is that the story was validated and the chaperters were available to read when I searched for the story, but they aren't on the most recent pages. For example - For Bitter or Worse.

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/22/08 18:41

romancefan - 'Tis a glitch.

Scheherazade written on 01/22/08 18:57

If this has been asked and answered already, please ignore it, but does the purging of unused accts. affect the Forums as well or just the fanfic area?
Thanks in advanced. :-)

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/22/08 21:11

Scheherazade - The forums are not touched by this purging :)

JasperEvans written on 01/23/08 16:16

So thats why they have'nt posted my story yet! I thought they were all on break or something. Hey did anyone esle the same problem?Tell me how long it toke to get posted. {i'm going on 4 weeks.}

songbook99 written on 01/23/08 16:43

JasperEvans, there is no submission in the queue that has been there for four weeks. The oldest story in the queue was submitted on January 6, 2008, which is 17 days ago. While that is definitely longer than our usual time, the user purging has caused longer waits than normal.

anath written on 01/23/08 17:32

No, the oldest story in the queue must have been mine, which was submitted on January 2, 2008. Since I found it frustrating that it made impossible for me to submit another story, I deleted it less than an hour ago. I'll try again when the glitch is fixed.

songbook99 written on 01/23/08 17:34

anath, you must have deleted your story before I looked at the queue.

Chappe written on 01/23/08 18:50

Not to seem impatient, but when is this hacker dilemna going to be sorted out?

Marauder by Midnight written on 01/23/08 20:58

Chappe - As soon as possible.

anath and JasperEvans - Just so you know, every time you edit your story, it moves further down the queue. That may be why you think your stories have been in queue for too long.

anath written on 01/23/08 21:41

No, I know that you move down the story when editing it and I rarely edit after submitting a story - sometimes I edit an hour or two later, that's all. It seems that my computer and MMFN sometimes have problems keeping the connecton or whatever. It isn't the first time when a story of mine keeps moving down without being edited or something - it just acts as if it was. And that's not my imagination, that is what one of the mods said after I alerted the staff about a long delay.
