Site Upgrade Status

by Marauder by Midnight @ 03/02/08 9:05
Dear Authors,

I'm sure all of you are itching for the queue to open so you can submit your wonderful stories and read what others have planned during this very very long upgrade process. We apologise for not having the queue available for you in a timely fashion.

However, we have begun the upgrade process by backing up all stories and reviews that exist on the database. Any story or review that has been submitted (not necessarily validated) by March 12, 2008 will be backed up and should be safe should we run into upgrade problems. The queue is still unofficially closed, and we ask that if you can hold off on your submissions for two weeks, please do. It will save me a lot of space on my hard drive as I save all 7000+ stories on my computer.

The actual upgrade will occur on the weekend of March 14, 2008. At that time, the queue will be officially closed to submissions from March 14 until March 16, 2008 at the earliest. We also ask that you avoid visiting MuggleNet Fan Fiction during that weekend. Please check the beta forums during that weekend for any updates on the upgrade process to make the upgrading faster, easier, and smoother. We will use the forum, which will remain untouched during the upgrade, to let you know when the site will be open. We are hoping that the site will be up and running (with brand-new and WORKING functions) by March 16th.

If you have any questions about the site upgrade, please contact Beth (Marauder by Midnight) or Roxy (Roxy Black) privately or post here.

On an unrelated note, the FAQ section has been edited to reflect the names of current moderators. The Formatting section of the Help page now includes a "How to get rid of those pesky breaks between paragraphs" for those of you whose stories are constantly rejected for formatting errors. I'll take this time to reiterate that you MUST use the "Preview" button before submitting. It will save you and us a lot of time.

One last very important note: Avoid accessing the site between March 14 through March 16. Use the forums to contact moderators or to keep up with the upgrade status.

Thank you so much for your patience through this rather stressful period. We're almost there!

Oh, I'm so glad that MNFF is almost there! Thanks so much, mods, I know you've been working extremely hard to keep the site above water and I'm so glad there's an end in sight. *passes out cake* I'll have to stop procrastinating now, right? Thanks again, and I hope all goes well!

Siriusly Mr Black - No, we're good for the time being. Thank you for your offer :)

Angel of Dreams - Between Roxy and I, we have enough space. But thank you for offering.

Oooh, yay, I'm so excited. I've been trying to submit the same story since mid-December (with a rejection & a beta). Thanks to the modders so much for everything you do for this wonderful site... If there is any way possible for anybody to help, LET US KNOW!! *sniffs...gives the mods ten million hugs*

Thanks for the hard work everyone. I know that the rest of the writers really appreciate what you are doing.

This is just a quick addition to Beth's comment about the moderators listed on the FAQ page as being correct. There are three people listed there who are no longer moderators: Gmariam, Mrsgeorgeweasley, and Nightfall00.

Above when it said if people do acess the site it shouldn't have serious problems but, when you said for our sake and yours reccomdend not to what are the risks for us other then delaying this site to return to normal? Thank you mods for sticking to this site. :) If stories can't get through the queue is still closed then why do I keep getting emails saying stories were updated?

Vindictus Viridian written on 03/03/08 16:28

CloewithLOVE -- the answer is up about ten posts, I believe.

Everyone, figure if something weird happens, it's probably on that list of reasons we're doing the upgrade, including that flurry of emails on updates. Hopefully all that will go away soon. If you're just DYING to have someone read something you've written, come onto the forums and check out The Three Broomsticks! Or Excerpts of Murtlap! The forums are in fine shape, and you might get some valuable feedback.

Thanks to all the lovely modlies for taking time out of their busy lives to maintain an awesome site for all of us! Know that you are loved and respected, and here's a whole lot of coffee in case of late nights. *gives coffee* I also have espresso. :)

Thank you everyone that is helping out with the site! I'm sure that when it's updated it will be more awesome than ever. Good luck with everything and we all hope that the site doesn't crash before you back everything up!!! Good luck to all the mods!

Yay!! thank you so much!!! i can't wait!! :-P

Marauder by Midnight written on 03/03/08 20:17

CloewithLOVE - Yes, I did answer your question a few posts before yours. And I believe some people get updates when authors submit their chapters, not when they're validated.

dreamgirl65 written on 03/04/08 22:23

If we normally have our computers keep us logged on should we log off before the 14th? Or do we acctually have to be accessing the site to slow down the upgrade process?

But good luck! you all have been working so hard! go mods!

Silver Whisper written on 03/04/08 22:39

Thankyou! I hope everything works out okay! well done mods!

Thnx so much for doing all of this it's just really sad that it takes so long cuz i have chptr one of a story i've been working on that is ready great job mods

Angela_Prongs written on 03/06/08 19:31

Good luck, mods! You guys have clearly been working hard on this while we all sit back and watch nervously. Losing MNFF would be the worst thing EVER (well, kind of...;P) and you are doing an awesome job keeping us all organized and in check.

Now, I have ze question: when the site is back to normal again, will anything have changed? I don't just mean the reviews and the layout, but will our profile information change at all? (Just in case, I've saved my Bio section to my hard drive.)

Good luck with the fixing and we all have our fingers crossed! Great job, mods! *jumps on a table and does mod-encouraging dance* RAH-RAH MODS!
