Update in Submissions Policy

Hello all,
Thank you for all of your kind words and support over the past few weeks. We’re very glad to say that the update has gone exceedingly well and we’re well on our way to ironing out our problems and glitches and getting the site running smoothly again. However a further problem needs to be addressed.
After much deliberation, the moderators of MNFF have decided that we will need to charge our authors for each mistake they make in their fictions to make the site financially viable. Our site is always expanding and unfortunately cyber-space is money. We have talked long and hard about the best way to go about this and have devised a little price list which we believe to be both fair and reasonable.
Obviously, MNFF is a site which values the promotion of good writing, and so we decided that it would be errors in fictions that we would charge, rather than the fictions themselves. This makes our lives as moderators easier and I hope you’ll agree that the prices we’ve come up with are equivalent to each error.
Please see below for our list of prices:

$1 for each spelling or punctuation mistake
$2 per canon error
$3 for every multiple category submission
$5 for each tiresome cliché
$10 for every incorrect title or poor summary
$20 for characterisation problems
$50 flat rate for dialogue errors

We will flag up the cost of each mistake in the rejection letters you receive with information on how and where you can pay.

Considering you can buy a URL for ten years for a grand total of only $80, I doubt that you can indeed charge people for stories because of ‘funds’ unless you really have no jobs and no roofs over your heads. You DO have jobs, I’m guessing… so it’s an Aprils ‘Fools’ Day joke, because only a fool could fall for this. No offence to anyone, of course.

I would like to applaud the mods' strength in making this decision. It's easy enough for everyone to complain and protest, but what's the alternative? We could have lost our beloved site completely. Instead the admirable moderators are choosing to save the site the only way they can - don't you think that the end in this case justifies the means?
I would also like to add that perhaps charges should be instated for Americanisms, Mary-Sue OCs and lame usernames? Perhaps 50c, $8 and $30 respectively? Because those three offenses a)would definitely pay big $$$ towards MNFF's financial problems and b)give MNFF a bad name.
Thanks very much mods for what you're doing for our site; I am awed by your dedication.

So there we go. It was an April Fools joke. Those of you who have been members here for a while will know that we like to do big events to celebrate Fred and George's birthday and we are truly sorry to any of you who found this difficult. I hope you can forgive us all. There were quite a few instances here which were taken out of proportion. I hope we haven't lost too many authors permenantly, but there is no excuse for rudeness or threatening behaviour whatever the situation. We took no actual money out of anyones account and no harm was done other than a day of possible confusion.
We made the price list increasingly excessive in the hope that people wouldn't believe it. There would be absolutely no reason to ask for so much money over those errors. But I do hope you'll agree that a successful April Fools joke is one that people could believe - it's much better than something blatantly obvious at any rate.

hmm... i just read all of the comments here and all i have to say is that the joke WOULD have been funny. however, the moderators' insistence made it all seem very real. that, coupled with the letter sent (not really sure, just reading from the comments) made the joke quite worrisome. you should have taken into account that some people have very little tolerance for humor (thus, the dark/angsty fics category) and some people don't know how to distinguish a joke from the truth. before you start ranting at me for "flaming" the mods, i would like to say that i am not blaming them. they were only joking around but took it a little too far with their insistence and the "letters" sent. however, the users here also blew it out of proportion, overreacting over this joke. i mean, once they realized it was all a joke, they should've just said sorry right? that's all, i guess.

OHHHHH.............I just read the comments, that was NOT a funny April Fools joke, I was just going to delete my account, so congratulations for losing SOME of your authors, I saw the comment yesterday, so ha ha. By the way, was the Owl-O's cereal banner real? I hope it was!

Icee787 and lupins_girl2006, this was definitely a joke. There has been a new post stating that, twice, up on the homepage for the last 16 hours.

Also, though those who weren't able to laugh at the joke kept warning that authors were going to leave, that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, our numbers are still increasing and chapters are still coming in at a steady pace.

Aha! Great joke, mods. I'll admit, you had me there for a while, but then I thought, "Wait a tick. What day is it?" And for all of you lot that were flaming and being naive, you have to go get a sense of humor.

I wanted to get some Owl-O's, but they were a bit pricy; especially since I'm broke. *sigh*
