Yay! I sent in my application a few hours ago. I hope I can be a mod!
Also, good luck to anyone that's applying! =D
~Michelle =)
lostinside1 - Part of your question was answered in my post right above yours. Please take the time to read the other comments just in case your question was already answered. If your story was accidentally deleted during the upgrades and NOT during our site purging, let me know the title of your story and I may be able to retrieve it for you.
clumsywerewolf2438 - A sweeper is a moderator that mods in the three major categories as well as modding any story that has been in queue for more than seven days.
Unrelated, but, um, what happened to the House Founder skins?
lostinside -- regarding what to put in a rec. Prove to the readers of your letter that the person you are writing about has the patience to deal with writers whose school systems haven't taught them basic grammar. Convince us that this person has excellent tact and good communications skills, or at least one of those two things. Demonstrate that your candidate can commit to a project. If you can't say any of those things, then you can say, "I'm sorry; I don't think I can do a good job on your letter. Could you ask someone else?"
do you guys get paid?
It's a non profit site, so they don't.
I don't think I'll apply this time round. Maybe next time.

Being a mod is strictly a (time-consuming) volunteer position.
Good luck to everyone that applies!
Just wondering whether it would be wise for me to apply in the sense of time zones - I know that with the BA chats I've only made one or two because they've been on Sunday afternoons for Americans - meaning 8:30am on a Monday in which I'm off to school.
Mind you, I do have a number of spares at school so that means I can be on a lot...
Oh, one more thing - who would be the best people to ask for recommendations besides people we may have beta'ed for?
Good luck to everyone else who applies!
Abbi :)
We try to organise meetings to suit everyone. Obviously we're not all American (I myself am British) so don't take the meetings as a reason not to apply.
As for your recommendations, ask the people who will know you the best. If this is an author you've beta'd for, go ahead. We just want to know what you're like.
Honestly, don't focus on the staff meetings as that's not the biggest part of this job. Your primary concerns should be your availability to devote time to moderating stories in the queue and other duties as assigned. The priority is, and always has been, the submissions queue.
Clearly, we're still getting back up to speed after the hacker attack problems and the upgrade. Combine that with still working on some system glitches and naturally things slow down. This is NOT the place to ask about specific stories and where they are in the queue. Those comments will be deleted. Please keep this post for questions about the mod application process or the job in general. And sadly, no, we don't get paid.
YES! New mods! I cannot wait! Maybe that'll make it so that stories aren't in queue for twenty days... not that I'm complaining, I'm just glad that the site won't be so short-staffed anymore. *Tries to be patient*
Ok, I know this may seem like a sort of dumb question, but how do I send in an application?
Malfoy_Star92 - Please read the first post very carefully.
Another unrelated, but every time I try to enter my next chapter into the queue, I get an error message that reads:
Method Not Implemented
POST to /stories.php not supported.
The problem is, that because the error message is so vague, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Is this a common error to have? Is it a site error or a user error? I know it's not a computer error because I've tried it on three different computers. If it is a site error, how long will it be before it can be fixed? If it is a user error, could you offer some suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? At first I thought I might have an html problem; but I've quadruple checked and everything seems to be fine. Now I'm at a complete loss as to what I could be doing wrong. Is it a problem with copying and pasting from Microsoft Word? I've never had trouble with that before.
What am I doing wrong?!
Added to my other post:
Is there a maximum length for chapters, because I don't seem to have the problem when I submit parts of my chapter, just when I submit the whole thing. It's about 12,200 words. There's no max length written in the submission rules, only a minimum. Am I just whacking out the system with my enormous chapter? How can I fix this?
Please help me, somebody!
So I found the part where it says 10000 word max. Why isn't that up front in the submission rules so I don't have to waste three days pulling my hair out because can't submit my fic? Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen chapters that have been long than 10000 words. If this is a newer guideline, when was it created and what was I supposed to read that would have told me about it? Sorry about all these irrelevant posts, I've just been really frustrated lately with this whole thing and I didn't know where to go for help. Meh.
shewolf2000 - As myownmuggle just pointed out a few posts above, this is for questions about applications. General questions should be posted in the forum, which you had done.
As a helpful point for everyone, being a successful moderator partly means being able to read and follow instructions. You must also be familiar with this site's policies.
I know this is a really stupid question, but what's a sweeper?
