Reviews For Until The Very End

:( At the end of the first part I felt really down, because I thought that he was going to wake up the next morning and Lily and James would be dead. But the bit with James trusting him and wanting him to look after Lilly and Harry was really sweet. I can imagine James thinking it through a little and deciding that Sirius was too reckless or something like that. I also found the bit where James said he owed Remus and remus denying it very bittersweet as I could almost feel Remus feeling guilty (which James says he feels) about Lily in that part and trying to make silent amends with his conscience about it by saying that his friend doesn't owe him. And then it was the end and I just felt so sad because I knew that in a few days time, Remus would wake up in that shared cottage and find Lily and James dead and Sirius and Harry gone, and he would feel terrible, like he'd failed his friends, especially James, as he was likely to expect that Sirius betrayed them. I wonder how much Dumbledore told him afterwards, because he still seems a bit down in PoA. I loved this because it made me feel so sad for Remus.

Author's Response: It is rather sad, isn't it? The whole idea that Sirius and Remus didn't trust one another at the end is very sad to me. I really want to know more--or want to write more! But one of them said that James would have found it the height of dishonor to mistrust one of his friends, so I do think he trusted them all at the end, even Peter. I think, though, that James didn't switch because he found Sirius reckless. Sirius went into hiding as well: it was like double protection. Someone might go after Sirius, but it wasn't him anyway. I can only imagine how terrible Remus felt. I wrote a story about it a few years ago, but I suspect I'd write it a bit differently after exploring his character more since then. Thank you so much for the review on this one! I really appreciate all your lovely comments on my stories. Thank you! ~Gina :)

Wow, I love how much voice you manage to instill within each of the characters here. It makes it that much more believable. It was pretty cute when Remus was drunk, but the tone shift is smooth, and suddenly it's serious. A great read!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this, since it felt a bit different for me. So happy the shift worked for you as well. I really appreciate the lovely review - thank you!! ~Gina :)

Gina, thank you so much! I don't even know where to start. I love this so much and I got teary again with my second reading. Remus is perfect, as usual. I want to hug him so badly.

I've always love to see his and Lily's friendship because I definitely think that they would have been close and I love how much she cares for him especially when he needs it the most. I never thought of him endangering a whole pub full of people just by being there and I love that Lily is able to make him realize how bad of a mistake it was but understanding him the whole time.

How awful to think that the people that you've trusted since you were eleven no longer trust you. Even though we know what Sirius is like and that he does lash out at whomever is around, it makes me want to shake him. And thank Merlin James comes around in the end. I think I might not have stopped crying if Remus didn't know that James trusted him before he died.

I know it's movie canon, and all of that, but from now on, whenever I watch PoA, I will be thinking of Lily pulling Remus out of that pub when he is telling Harry about how kind his mother was.
Thank you so much! ~Lea

Author's Response: You'reeeeee welcomeeeeee! Yay! I'm glad you like it. I was worried it was far too sad a birthday present. But I'm glad you liked Remus. I'd like to think he was close with Lily as well. I can even go for the odd Lily/Remus story before she starts dating James, hee hee. And yes, I have to believe James trusted him because to think otherwise is too heartbreaking. And that line from the movie was, I believe, the prompt for the original drabble. So connecting it to PoA is perfect! Yay! I'm glad you liked it, thanks for the review!! ~Gina :)

I knew I'd read some of this before :). Thank goodness you've turned it into a fully-fledged story. This is so good. I love the dynamics here between Lily and Remus and then Remus and James. Its heartening for Remus and for me to read that they both trusted him because I think that feeling of hollowness that he was mistrusted would have sunk him to nothingness, otherwise.

Excellent story, Gina. I had to wait to read it only because I was busy with my own, and reading something this fab would have made me weep further. But now I can weep with joy at how lovely thins is. ~Carole~

Author's Response: Thank youuuuu, Carole! Yes, I do believe you set the drabble prompt. I know my drabble is still up in TTB somewhere. I expanded it quite a while ago, hoping for more, but that second part didn't appear until last week. I just couldn't leave the first part as it was, it needed more. And James showed up! Yay! And I agree: I want to believe James trusted him, even if Sirius did not. I can see that causing conflict, but can you imagine Remus's life knowing James didn't trust him? Ugh, the sadness! Anyway, thanks so much for reading this. I'm glad it worked and that you enjoyed it!! ~Gina :)

This is powerful, and I think it captures the emotions that must have been running high, perfectly. Have James and Lily chosen Peter as their Secret Keeper already, and not told Lupin? Either way, I'm really glad that you wrote this in Lupin's view- there really isn't enough about how he would feel when he found out that Sirius had become Secret Keeper and not him on MNFF. Would you consider writing a sequel? :D

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! To answer your question--Remus does not know until PoA that Peter had been Secret-Keeper. In fact, I don't think he realizes exactly what happened until he sees Pettigrew on the Marauders Map. Sirius says they changed to Peter at the last minute to throw people off. So obviously Peter didn't tell Remus in order to keep up the charade. Which begs the question: if Remus thought it was Sirius, why didn't he learn the secret from him during the week the Potters were in hiding? Was he unable to get a hold of Sirius? Did Sirius refuse to tell him? Or was he off doing his own thing in the war? Wow, as I type that, plot bunnies are forming, lol. Anyway-that's how I see it. As for a sequel, I guess the next logical thing would be for to answer those questions above, but I have no plans for that at the moment. I have loads of other Marauder stories, though, including one called Somewhere Only We Know, which is from Remus's point of view. I love his character--sometimes almost as much as James. :) Thanks again! ~Gina :)

Oh wow, I really really liked that. Particularly the second section. The first section was great as well, just very cringe-worthy at parts. (As in I felt embarrassed for the characters, not that your writing made me cringe :) ) Noo bad Remus, you'll regret that very much in the morning! But Lily is such a sweet friend.

"I know, but I need you to do something else for me, Moony." He pauses, his face so serious, so sincere. "I need you to live."

. . . . .

"Nothing is going to happen to you," I repeat numbly, willing it to be true.

I really REALLY enjoyed that whole section. It seemed so real, and honest the way you wrote it. It just makes it so distressing to read, James' fear. Because of course something does happen, and the rest of the Marauders' lives are (for the most part) just filled with such awfulness. Gah, this is just so sad it's killing me. At least Remus was around later to help Harry when he needed it :(

But anyway, great great piece.
-Annie

Author's Response: Hi Annie! Thank you so much for the review! I really appreciate all your comments. I sort of laughed about you cringing through the first part, but I can totally see that. Yes, it was a bit foolish of Remus. I think the original drabble was written for a prompt about Lily being kind to him, and that's what popped up: he kissed her in a drunken stupor, and she was still so supportive and kind. I added the second part recently. The Marauder's story is just so sad, sometimes I don't know why I keep writing it, only it's fascinating as well, and filled with both tragedy and deep love. We know Sirius didn't trust Remus from PoA, but I'd like to think James did. And maybe someday we'll learn from JKR herself just how Peter was able to fool them all. :P Thanks again for the lovely review! ~Gina :)
