I always knew that Petunia loved Lily...........this was heartbreakingly beautiful. This was great writing and you did a great job with Petunia, how she loved Lily yet was calling her a freak and was trying to avoid thinking about her altogether.....great story!
Author's Response: The trying to stop thinking about her was what I was going for; good to hear it got across! I’m glad you enjoyed the story, and thanks for the review!

Nice job! I thought you did a good job with the mundane routine of Petunia's life, capturing her character well. You built it up nicely to what we knew would happen when she opened the door. The last line tied to Vernon's attempt at comfort very well. I only wonder if Dumbledore would have revealed so much to Petunia in the letter. I just don't think he would have revealed the ancient magic to her, because that was quite a secret, as I recall. And as he certainly thought Voldemort might return, I don't think he'd trust a Muggle like Petunia to keep such a secret. Just something to think about. You did very well with her reaction to it. Good luck in the challenge!

Author's Response: As I said to Krista, I actually had quite a bit of trouble with that letter: between me and Megan, who was a very supportive beta and helped me immensely, we decided that what I’d had before gave her too much choice and not enough information. I don’t know whether Petunia would’ve believed it if Dumbledore hadn’t given her some information, but I see your point about the magic and putting them at risk.
Megan was also a great help in assuring me that Petunia’s mundane morning was not going to be rejected as ‘telling’. I was quite apprehensive about that, as Hindsight was rejected first time for that very reason.
Thanks for the good wishes and the lovely review!

This was great! I love seeing the side of Petunia that still loves Lily, despite how she may act. I think that was portrayed very well, keep it up! :D
Author's Response: Thanks. I'm glad you saw Petunia's family side. I think she really missed Lily after she pushed her away, so I'm glad that it came through to you.
Thanks for the review!

Oh my. Very good. I've always wondered what the letter said and what happened after she read the letter.
Author's Response: Thanks. I wasn't really sure what to put in the letter except I knew that she had to find out about Lily and she needed to know that Harry had to stay under that roof. I thought that Dumbledore would be really nice about it, but Megan made it clear to me that he would've needed to make his point clear to Petunia or she wouldn't have told Vernon to let Harry stay in OotP. As for afterwards, I haven't really said much about that...perhaps I should've done.
Thanks for the review!

You have a slight mistake with the date. Lily and James were killed on the 31st of October, so this should be set on the 1st of November. Great Fic!
Author's Response: Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
As for the error, I think that Lily and James were killed on the evening of the 31st of October, but Harry was taken to Privet Drive on the night of the 1st of November, as people had been celebrating all day beforehand. Therefore, this scene would've taken place on November 2nd.

I really like Petunia's point of view.
Author's Response: I do too. I'm glad you could see the other side of Petunia as well.
Thanks for the review!

I thought your characterisation of Petunia was dead on; judgemental, but still human and still capable of emotion, and it was touching when she realised Lily was dead.
I thought this was perfect, exactly how I imagined that morning to unfold, and truly heartbreaking when you think of Lily and James having died and the fact Harry spends the next ten years of his life in this horrid house :(

Author's Response: Thanks so much. I owe a lot of credit for characterisation help to Megan, my amazing beta, who helped me a lot. I am fond of exploring minor characters, especially showing their other sides.
I'm glad you enjoyed the fic, and thanks for reviewing!
