Lurking in shadows
They strive in the dark;
On the sadness of others
Nightmares they spark

All around them
The air becomes cold
Sucking out souls
I need to be bold

They guard the vile prison
Bringing terror to captives’ eyes
Punishment for what they’ve done
Drawing out their criminal lies

Making any person
Feel just like a child
Like you want to hide from them
They make your mind go wild

Destroying you is what they like
By using memories of your past
Torturing you is their power
They’ll take your soul at last

You must be strong against them
Your happiness will be lost
If you let them kiss you
It’s your life that will be cost

Neither are they living
Nor are they dead
The frozen death they bring
Is something you should dread

I hear it’s rattled breath
And see its grey, scabbed hands
Underneath a hood of darkness
As a menacing shadow it stands

Below a veil of mystery
It seeks to consume my soul
Pulling back its hood to show
A face where life was stole

Whenever they are near
They bring icicles to my core
Send chills up and down my spine
And pain I can’t ignore

Making air condense to ice
As I gasp for breath
Tempting out my emotions
As I wish for death

I know I must have courage
Though I feel broken
I’m slowing losing hope
The pain is unspoken

Strength is the key
Against these creatures of night
If I show them no mercy
I know I’ll be all right

They force us to relive
Our worst possible visions
Whether we’re what they hunt or not
Is their only decision

Our pain becomes their power
It’s what they need to survive
Thriving on thoughts and emotions
It keeps them alive

I am feeling very weary
Like I am slowly fading
It is my spirit
That they are invading

My body is almost broken
All I need is the power
To cast the patronus
While over me they tower

I gain back my composure
As I stand and raise my wand
A silver smoke emerges
Sending them far and beyond
