“Dursley residence, Vernon speaking.” Vernon Dursley said after answering the telephone on Sunday afternoon.

“HI!” a voice yelled. “THIS IS RONALD WEASLEY! CAN I SPEAK WITH HARRY POTTER PLEASE?”

Mr. Dursley held the telephone three feet form his ear before yelling, “HOLD ON A MOMENT! AND PLEASE STOP YELLING!” This was the sixth call for Harry this summer from Ron Weasley. Mr. Dursley was between the points of frustrated and downright annoyed, because Ron hadn’t discovered that you didn’t have to yell for the person on the end of the other line to hear you, no matter how far the distance. “HARRY! PHONE!” Mr. Dursley snarled.

Harry came thundering down the stairs. He was hoping that this was the day that the Weasleys would invite him over for the rest of the summer.

“Make it short. That freaky friend of yours is going to run up my phone bill.”

Harry nodded his consent before holding the receiver just as far away as Mr. Dursley had kept it,“HELLO?”

“HI HARRY! MUM SAID THAT SHE WANTS YOU TO COME FOR THE SUMMER! CAN WE COME AND GET YOU TOMORROW?”

Harry’s heart felt as light as a feather. He would be leaving the Dursleys at long last,“YEAH SURE, THAT WOULD BE GREAT! WHAT TIME?”

“HOW DOES FIVE O’CLOCK SOUND?”

“GOOD! I”LL SEE YOU TOMORROW THEN!”

“OKAY THEN! BUH-BYE!

“BYE!” Harry hung up the telephone and turned to head up stairs to pack. On his way up Harry glanced into the living room where he saw the Dursley’s doing their own version of the happy dance. For a second Harry thought that they were happier that he was leaving than he was. But then again...only for a second.

“May I ask how your friend is getting here this time?” Aunt Petunia asked Harry around ten to five, the next day.

“I’m not sure but I know for a fact that they won’t be coming from the fireplace.” Harry said, remembering all to well about the floo network’s recent disconnection.

“All fine by me as long as they don’t destroy my living room again.”

She closed the door behind her as she left Harry’s room. Harry waited on his bed a short while longer until he heard Aunt Petunia scream and drop something fragile on the floor which shattered.

Harry heard a very familiar and extremely mirthful voice say, “Terribly sorry, Mrs. Dursley. I’ll just fix that right up...there you go.” Harry surmised that Mr. Weasley had repaired the broken china and handed it back to Aunt Petunia.

Harry grabbed his trunk and Hedwigs cage, and then he practically flew down the stairs. “Is Harry ready to...ah, there he is.” Mr. Weasley watched as Harry entered the kitchen. “Are you ready to go Harry?”

“Never been more ready in my life Mr. Weasley. How are we getting to the Burrow?”

“Portkey.” Mr. Weasley checked his watch. “And It’s almost ready to go off. Say goodbye to your cousin, aunt and uncle Harry.”

Harry gave less than a half hearted wave which the Dursleys just barely returned. “Bye I guess.”

Uncle Vernon grunted and Aunt Petunia nodded her head. Duddly just stood there dumbfounded, not saying anything or acknowledging that Harry had said anything at all. Harry could tell that Dudley was holding his tongue in the back of his mouth, not forgetting the last time the Weasley’s had come for Harry.

“Here we go Harry. Grab hold of the spatula. I’ll send your things ahead of us. Dursley’s it’s been nice talking with you.” Harry thought secretly to himself how it had only been Mr. Weasley talking. “And, four...three...two...one...” Harry felt the uncomfortable pull behind his navel and was drawn into a blur of colors and fuzzy shapes.

Slowing down to a halt Harry found himself flattened out, on the floor of the Weasley living room. Harry stood up and found himself knocked back to the floor by a bunch of bushy, brown hair. “Harry, we missed you so much!”

“I missed you too Hermione...can I breath now?”

Hermione released Harry in time to see Ron walk over and lift him off the ground. “Hey mate. How have you been?” Ron asked giving Harry a clap on the back.

“Just fine,” Harry answered truthfully. Though he had been having a hard time dealing with his Godfathers death only a few weeks previous, Harry was still doing “just fine.”

Ginny came over and gave Harry a hug too. Is this weird? Or should we be like this? My best friends sister...this should be right...Sort of like my sister. I think... Harry’s thoughts were interrupted by another as Ginny pulled away. Ginny’s is really pretty. And her hair...Harry! What are you thinking? He shocked himself and his face must have shown it because Hermione looked at him in concern.

“Harry? Are you alright?”

Harry shook away this thought and smiled at her. “Everything’s great.”

“Well good.” Ron picked up one end of Harry’s trunk and Harry grabbed the other.

Mrs. Weasley came bustling into the living room and pulled Harry in a motherly hug making Harry drop his end of the trunk on his toe. “Oh, Harry it’s so good to see you again! We missed you terribly.”

“I missed you too, Mrs. Weasley.” When she let go Harry nursed his foot for a few seconds as Mrs. Weasley continued.

“Why don’t you four bring Harry’s things up to Ron’s room and wash up for dinner.”

“He’s going to be here any second.” Ron, Hermione and Ginny were sitting in the living room of the Burrow waiting for Harry and Mr. Weasley to come home. Well, Ron and Ginny were sitting in the living room. Hermione on the other hand was pacing it, wall to wall. “Oh! The clock says, Mr. Weasley’s ‘traveling’ now.” Hermione couldn’t help but give a play-by-play. She had been doing it for the past five minutes.

Suddenly, Harry and Mr. Weasley appeared in the middle of the living room floor; Harry sprawled across it. He stood up and Hermione knocked him over again in a huge hug. “Harry, we missed you so much!”

Harry made a gagging noise “I missed you too Hermione...can I breath now?”

When Hermione let go, Ron strode over and lifted Harry off the ground. “Hey mate. How have you been?”

“Just fine.” Ginny wondered if that actually was how he was feeling. She hesitated just a second longer before giving him a hug too. Does he think this is weird? Well I suppose he thinks of me as Ron’s sister so I think he’s fine. Or maybe not? When she leaned out Ginny noticed Harry’s stunned facial expression.

“Harry? Are you alright?” Hermione must have noticed too.

He shook his and smiled. Oh, I love that smile. Ginny thought to herself. “Everything’s great.”

“Well good.” Ron picked up one end of Harry’s trunk and Harry grabbed the other.

Just then, Mrs. Weasley burst into the living room and hugged Harry making him drop the end of his trunk on his toe. “Oh, Harry it’s so good to see you again! We missed you terribly.”

“I missed you too, Mrs. Weasley.” Harry nursed his foot when Mrs. Weasley let go and continued speaking.

“Why don’t you four bring Harry’s things up to Ron’s room and wash up for dinner.”

“Sounds good to me!” Ron said as he nudged Harry with the trunk. Ginny picked up Hedwig’s cage and followed up the stairs wallowing the whole way. I shouldn’t have hugged him. He looked so surprised when I did it. I’m sure he’d expect me to do that by now though. Wouldn’t he? Well, from here on out, NO MORE HUGGING HARRY. There. Now I’ve burnt it on my brain.

When they reached the topmost room in the house Ron opened the door and led Harry, and his trunk to the end of Harry’s bed. Ginny took Hedwig’s cage over to the corner and set it up on the collapsible stand. Just at that moment Hedwig flew into the room with a note in her beak and a package tied to her leg. Harry walked over to her and she nipped his finger affectionately as he took the note. He read it once to himself and once aloud. It read:

Dear Harry,
I’m glad ter heer that you are back with the Weezleez. Madam Maxime and me are still on asinement in you no ware. I sent ya some thing nise for your berthday. No it doesnt have fleeze and it cant bite. I hope ya like it. I will be seeing ya again when skool starts in Siptembur. Say hello to the Weezleez and Herminee for me. Your big frend,

~ Hagrid

“Well?” Ron asked impatiently. “What did you get?”

Harry relieved Hedwig of her burden and she took off out the window again. Harry opened the package to find a book called, Useful Magic Not Taught at School, by Denis Garfield.

“Harry that’s great.” Hermione paged through the book for a short time. “I wonder what made Hagrid buy this instead of something like a Billywig.”

“I’m sure it had something to do with, hem, hem,” Ginny changed her voice to make it sound like Madam Maxime’s, “Olympe,”

They all had a good laugh which was interrupted by Ron’s stomach growling. “I don’t know about you all but I’m starved! Let’s go eat.”

For dinner, everyone was served homemade chicken potpie; one of Mrs. Weasley’s finest. At the table sat Mrs. Weasley at one end and Mr. Weasley at the other. In between sat Bill, Fred, George, and Charlie on one side and Hermione, Ron, Harry, and Ginny on the other. As he watched her sit next to him he cursed his luck. Why is this so weird though Harry? You’ve sat by Ginny at dinner loads of times and it hasn’t bothered you then. Well that was when you didn’t like her yet. Wait a second! Did I just tell myself I liked Ginny Weasley? Harry looked over at her with a half smile on his face. She smiled back at him. That beautiful smile that would never get old. You bet you did.

“Chicken potpie everyone!”

There was a chorus of “yeah”’s and “good”’s at the sound of Mrs. Weasley’s announcement. It was enough to put a smile on Mrs. Weasley’s face.

On one side of the table sat the four oldest children and on the other sat Ron, Harry, Ginny and Hermione. To Ginny’s utter dismay, she was the one next to Harry. It wasn’t at all that she didn’t like Harry. As a matter of fact, it was just the opposite. If I’m going to sit next to him, at least let him acknowledge me. To her surprise, Harry looked right at Ginny with a half smile, that lavish half smile, on his face. She smiled right back. Maybe this summer wouldn’t be so bad after all.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The first few days went by easily for Harry because he wasn’t around Ginny all that much. After the first day at the Burrow, he couldn’t help but keep his mind on her. She was the first thing he thought of when he woke up in the morning and the last thing he’d think about before he fell asleep. And yet, when he saw Ginny he pretty much turned around and walked in the other direction. Ginny on the other hand, hadn’t seemed to notice Harry’s strange behavior towards her at all, being caught in the same trap.

It had been an entire week before Harry and Ginny had anymore interaction other than eating at the same dinner table. Ron and Hermione had recently had another row after dinner and Harry volunteered himself out of the bedroom so that Ron could discharge his anger alone. A few minutes later Harry found himself downstairs in the kitchen where he saw Ginny with her back to him. She was standing on her tiptoes reaching for something on the top shelf of the pantry.

Harry was almost about to go and help Ginny until he realized that, by helping out, he could possibly strike up a conversation. And doing that would involve talking. At this point anything Harry could say to Ginny would be incoherent.

Instead, Harry found his way up to the attic, the farthest room from the kitchen, where he noticed a little window overlooking the Weasley property. Under the window, Harry saw an area large enough for about six people to lay at their leisure. He carefully slid up the window so that he was sure it wouldn’t lock him out and in a few minutes, found himself on the roof of the Burrow looking at the stars.

While gazing he saw a shooting star and made a wish, not knowing that it would come true. Or that it would actually come true in a matter of minutes. Soon after he heard the window of the attic slide open further and turned his head to see who was crawling out. Ginny. She was carrying a small bowl of whatever she had been reaching for and didn’t notice Harry laying on his back until she almost stepped on him.

“Oh! Harry. Did you want to be alone? I can leave if you want.”

“No. Please, join me.” Harry?! Where did that come from? “I was just letting Ron vent at his pillow instead of me.” Ginny laughed. She has such a playful laugh. It suits her perfectly. “What brings you up here?”

Ginny looked a bit uncomfortable answering that question. “Honestly?” Harry nodded his head. Whoa, Ginny girl! Slow it down and think about what you’re saying. For a second Ginny thought she was going to tell Harry her secret. “You’re going to think it’s stupid.” She tried to get away with not answering but Harry pried into her mind, little by little.

“No I won’t Ginny. I promise. Just tell me; I won’t laugh if that’s what you’re afraid of.”

“Why don’t you tell me the reason that, of all the places you could have gone to evade my brother, you picked the roof?”

“Because I asked you first.”

Damn! That was a stupid question. Well it’s now or never Ginny, She thought to herself. “The real reason I came up here?” She paused until she thought her secret would stay inside her no longer. “I came up here to clear my mind of you.”

“Me?” Harry asked in disbelief.

“You.”

Now Harry stared in disbelief. Ginny didn’t know what to do or say so she began to turn around to leave. Out of nowhere, Harry’s hand shot up and grabbed Ginny’s just before it was out of reach.

“Don’t go Ginny.”

“Why not?”

Harry had no words to express his thankfulness. So he used his lips in a different way. The kiss was soft and sweet. Harry could feel Ginny physically relax to his touch. When their lips broke apart, the embrace they held did not.

After a few more seconds Harry broke the silence. “Ron’s going to kill me you know that?”

“We, best not tell him then right?” Ginny said with a sly sort of smile.

Harry smiled too. It was so much easier than he thought it would be to kiss her, to talk with her, to be around her, to hold on to her, to tell her that he loved her. And the list went on the longer the newfound couple stayed on that roof. Everything is easier out here. Harry thought. Here, on this roof, with this girl, in the starlight.

Eventually they found their way to the floor of the roof where they watched the stars.

“Harry look! A shooting star make a wish!”

“I have no more use for wishes than I do a book on my own biography.

“Oh really? And why is that?”

“My wish already came true.”
