On the dirty, dusty
ground they gathered.
In the depths of night -
the moon didn't shine.
I was too scared

Their wands created
deathly images in my mind.
I shook hard and
their pale faces haunted me.

Their foul words
burned in my ears.
I looked up at them and
saw my future.
I was too scared

"Pull up your sleeve,"
they said and I
stood there quietly like
a frozen pond.
I was too scared

A bird cried out
and I almost did too.
It seemed so lonely and
I saw my life flash by.
I was too scared

I wouldn't let them
control me
they couldn't - wouldn't and
I would stop them but
I was too scared

I backed away.
I would not join them.
I saw the surprise
on their faces.
I was too scared

I heard him hiss
a cry of outrage
and betrayal and
I saw them come.
I was too scared

I knew their plans
but I couldn't move.
I stood
Anticipating.
I was too scared

I heard the curse and
heard it come.
Saw it whoosh by
my head.
I was too scared

I knew the second
one would hit
the mark - me.
And it did because
I was too scared
