When I first saw you,
the sun lustrous on your
unkempt, obsidian hair

I thought we'd be perfect.

Why did you leave?

When I first saw you,
Your eyes so energetic and abyssal
they made me tremble

I thought I saw you grin.

Why did you leave?

When I first saw you,
I didn't think of what
we could have become

I thought of what we had been.

Why did you leave?

When I last saw you,
You looked so worn,
As if nothing mattered anymore

I thought it was the end, but it was only the beginning.

Why did you leave?

When I last saw you,
your eyes had lost their green sparkle
the world seemed to halt for a second

I thought of us.

Why did you leave?

When I last saw you,
I understood -
At least I pretended to.

I thought you'd see through this beautiful mess.
