Glass Shoe

One night to live a fairy tale, every young girl’s dream
But someone else’s fantasy is never what it seems.
Tired, sore and aching is not how it should feel-
It’s hard to be ecstatic in brittle 3-inch heels.
The music’s getting slower, the night is almost through
And I think I’ve danced too long in my glass shoe.

The prince keeps gazing at me as ‘round the floor we whirl
But can one night make a princess of an ordinary girl?
I’m floating here in garments that anyone would brag
While I’m dreaming of a pauper in old and dusty rags.
My stubborn, mixed-up, messed-up friend, I’d find my way to you
But I just can’t walk that far on a glass shoe.

The bells chime-I’m out of time.
When I wake I’ll be
Annoying, bossy, messy-haired know-it-all me.

Your sullen, angry words nearly knocked me off my feet
Didn’t know if it would hurt less to fight back or retreat.
I shouldn’t wear glass slippers when going to a ball
They’re far too quick to shatter when my words stumble and fall.
I’ll close my eyes, the spell will end
There’s not much else to do.
I guess I cut my heart on this glass shoe.
I must have cut my heart on a glass shoe.
