1. Stone by coppercurls

Stone by coppercurls
Stone mask, stone face; yet she
was my goddess. I wanted to warm
that icy heart,
that stone cold heart,
before she was lost to herself.

My snow queen,
her frozen breath showed
only fear,
not anger.
She had forgotten how to live.

But who was I to aspire
for so much as one glance,
one thought,
one word?
Melting in shadows, I waited.

And how the proud did fall.
One boy at last broke her shell.
With a coo,
and a smile,
summer came to her at last.

The infant in her arms,
a small, squalling bundle,
did what I did not;
what I could not.
He reminded her of hope.

And so I watched him;
envious, and yet I sheltered him.
He won again
for despite it all
I came to love him too.

Here she is, knocking at my door,
at last learning that life brings loss.
And when she begs
I must agree;
giving my life for my twice beloved.
