Broken

Breathe in, breathe out.
Lub-dub, lub-dub, his heart beats.
Signs of his life continuing.
The ache in his heart
A constant reminder of his loss.
First he lost the only father he’s known,
Now his mentor is gone, too.

How to keep moving on?
To turn this loss into something good.
Not understanding why.
But needing to right the wrongs;
He had no part in causing.
At the mercy of a mad-man and his followers,
Who will not win the final battle!

Youth and love were on his side.
Friends there, supporting him.
Backing him up emotionally and physically.
How many more would die before the final battle?
That thought just brought more pain and sorrow,
That he can not dwell on.
For then the battle would be lost.

He hopes that he has learned
All they attempted to teach him.
Knowing the battle could not be won alone.
Finding the strength to allow others to fight with him.
To stop this evil that has invaded the world.
Striving to end the suffering.
Not knowing the final cost.
