Author's Notes:
In her creation of Lily Potter, J.K. Rowling gave every woman a paragon of motherhood to look up to. I hope I do her justice.

To my own little ones, and my surrogates( you know who you are) a mothers love never dies. It just is and always will be.

Precious are these moments that I spend with you.
Holding you to me chest, I smell the sweet scent of soap.
Looking down at you I relent, I think you look like your father too.
But your eyes, the color of living spring, speak to me of hope.
I want to spend eternity with you here, watch you thrive, watch you grow.
To learn of the world’s wonders and the magic that it holds.
Part of being your mother means I need to let you go.
To let you out of my sight and see how your life unfolds.
I lay you down inside your cot and tuck your blanket snug.
Running my hands across your brows, your eyes start to close.
You look so content, so beautiful, I restrain another loving hug.
How rewarding is the love that a mother feels and knows.
Hoping this feeling lasts forever I slowly back away.
One last look from the door, tells me everything will be okay.

Fortunate is how I feel when I think of you.
Happiness at the miraculous feats you master with ease.
I fill with rapture at every little thing you do.
You are so eager to learn, and oh so eager to please.
Every coo and gurgle sound like a symphony to me
Each of your attempts at movement, the simplest of dances.
I yearn to see you older, see what kind of man you will be.
Whether you sit back and watch or are the one that takes chances.
My hope is for your life to be filled with happiness and love.
For you to follow your dreams and find a purpose of your own.
To handle each trial, no matter how hard and some how rise above.
To learn from what I have taught you and what you have been shown.
You are my living legacy, the only real footprint I will leave behind.
A mother's love imprinted on your heart, in your soul, in your mind.
