A slow, solemn sunset slips sadly over the land
and all things creep home to sleep.
Only one bright thing remains; a burning jewel in the sky
that soars above the sorrow.

Some say it sang a thousand songs of loss and longing
to ease the misery down below.
But sadness clings like a limpet; refusing to release the hull
of a ship that has sailed forever.

Yet still there might be found some happy misery
in what remains of the mourners' hearts.
For though the man may be gone; slipping from the mortal world
into an everlasting whorl, his legacy remains.
One boy stands taller, prouder, more courageous than before
as he prepares to win the day, to lay his claims.
