Schadenfreude by just_the_contrary
It was a day of rain and slush,
The sidewalks wet with grime.
A man was sitting on the curb
And had been for some time.

A handsome lad in lavish robes
Held out a pristine hand.
“I’m here to help you out, good sir,
To show you ‘round the land.”

The gutter man blinked once, blinked twice “
The other was still there;
He clasped his slimy hand in his
While taking extra care.

The handsome one looked at the flask
Of whiskey thrown aside.
“I’ll help you out of this slum life
And salvage your lost pride.”

The gutter man gazed hopefully,
His clothing soaked with rain.
Maybe this could be the way out
Of drunken life and pain.

The handsome man walked up ahead.
The other dragged behind,
As if Tom Riddle was his eyes
And he was hurt and blind.

The pristine one stopped at a door “
T’was crumbling, dark and old.
The only clue was slithering
On doorstep green with mold.

Nagini stepped aside for Tom
As he released the door.
The gutter man looked in the house
As mud trailed on the floor.

Tom Riddle closed the door behind,
Announcing to the men,
“Now you’re with me! You’ll never be
Hungry or poor again!”

The man was met with many cheers,
But went on with his case.
“You’ll all help with my vision of
A pureblood-only race!”

The followers were grateful for
Tom’s much-searched-for relief;
Someone to help them out and chase
Away their bottled grief.

“You’ll carry out this plan I made
From Mudbloods to the court.
You’ll have the right to thrill and kill
With me “ Lord Voldemort!”

The white- and dark-haired ones alike
Clapped at this mighty talk,
For they were his youth members, said
The face as white as chalk “

“I’ve heard he wants to do great things,
Make our race pure and dark;
Has he entrusted you with the
Sign of his honed Dark Mark?”

The other lad rolled up his sleeve
To show the mark he’d got.
“I can’t wait ‘till we get to serve
Him and until we’ve fought.”

No, these youth weren’t the old Boy Scouts,
Fast chasers or beaters.
They’re the Dark Lord’s starting line-up “
Voldemort’s Death Eaters.
