Alone:
The Memories of Remus John Lupin
It's hard to be alone
To those who've never tried it
I'd try to avoid it
Keep a fast hold
Anyone special
Stay close to their side
'Cause before you know it
They're all gone
Whisked away
To somewhere you can't
Follow.
You'll see their faces
Disappear
They'll fall through the veil
And not come out
The other side.
The light dies from their eyes.
You'll find them alone
The last traces of laughter
Still etched on
Their faces.
And you'll try to hold on,
But the memory
Just slips through your fingers,
Like trying to hold water
In your hands.
All of a sudden.
You've got everything,
The best in the world,
Then,
Without any warning,
It's gone.
The whole world will come
Crashing down
On top of your head,
And you'll have to hold it up,
With no one beside you,
But the memory
Of a few good friends,
A few good times,
And you'll realize
You're all alone.
Everyone around you,
It all seems so distant,
And the only things
In the world
Are two cold, dead eyes,
Staring up
Out of a body
Without any life.
And the man
Who did such great things,
Who made you laugh,
And cry,
And scream,
Is gone.
He's left nothing
But an empty shell,
And try as you might,
You can't forget him,
But he's gone;
So hold on.
