~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sitting on the river bank, a blossom in her hand,
The blossom opens and closes, she thinks that it's quite grand.
Her sister comes behind her and looks on with jealous eyes,
Through them the gift is seen as a disease, not as a prize.
A boy comes behind them, unseen by either girl,
He watches in awe as the flower's petals unfurl.
The younger girl sits, with wonder in her eyes,
Watching her gift at work, accepting it with surprise.
The younger girl runs home, flower clutched tight,
She shows it to her parents who respond with such delight.
The older girl watches, the hatred in her eyes blazing,
She doesn't see her sister's gift as being so amazing.
The sister watches as the younger gets a letter,
Despite the gift, the elder still feels that she is better.
But arrogant as she is, she recognizes her greed,
Her younger sister has a gift that she does not,and so she must concede.
She watches as her sister and "that awful boy",
Receive from their magic, such knowledge and such joy.
The younger goes off to Hogwarts, and makes lots of new friends,
Lot's of letters home, telling about them she sends.
Sorted into Gryffindor, the house for the noble and the brave,
Her friendship with the boy, a Slytherin, she does not waive
Her friends are many, her enemies few.
The ones that hate her, hate as the ignorant do
But even the, who hate her for her lack of heritage, are few.
Only one friend she could do without,
James Potter, admirer, is constantly about.
She takes her exams, with top marks every year.
And over every lost mark, she sheds many a tear.
A new dark wizard has surfaced about,
It seems that wizards of impure blood he will try to wipeout.
The girl is caught in the middle of this fight,
And without hesitation she leaves easy for right.
Three times she defies him along with her new friend,
James Potter, it seems know how to make her condescend.
Thrice they defy him, undermining his rule,
All of this they do before leaving Hogwarts, to learn at Auror School.
They learn to be Aurors, to help defeat the Dark Lord,
This is the goal that she has always leaned toward.
While they are studying, the two become close,
Even while the news gets even more morose.
A time comes in their lives when he proposes and she accepts,
They have a wedding and finish training, proving their skills are adept.
She gets pregnant and they are glad,
Soon a child will come and much joy will be had.
A prophecy is then made about a child born in July,
Who will defeat the Dark Lord whom his parents did thrice defy.
Two children to be born could be the prophesied one,
The Potter baby and another one could be done.
The Dark Lord found out about the prophecy and the child he will kill,
Because doing this, he believes, the prophecy he will fulfill.
The girl and her husband go to a friend,
Albus Dumbledore who has powers that them he can surely defend.
Dumbledore performs the Fidelius Charm,
While their whereabouts remain secret, they cannot come to harm
She gives birth to a baby boy,
An event that brings them such joy.
But, alas, three months after this promise made turn to dust ,
Their old friend feels the need to betray their trust.
He divulges their whereabouts to the Dark Lord,
Thanks to this, it takes no effort to breach the ward.
Her husband tries to defend her and the child,
He is killed by the Dark Lord, whose rage is wild.
She runs upstairs, into the nursery,
Her babe she puts in his cot,
She stands in front of him, although she knows that it's for naught.
The Dark Lord glides up the stairs, intending to kill,
He enters the room and is unable to bend her strong will.
She asks him to spare her son, "Kill me instead" was her plead,
He acquiesces to her, she is dead, to her request he does not plan to heed
He turns his wand on the parent less child,
"Avada Kedavra," he yelled and smiled,
He had destroyed the last of his obstacles, the one threat seemingly grim,
But something was wrong, the beam of green light sped back at him.
He was blasted from his body, less than a ghost he fled.
Because of the girl's sacrifice not a drop of her son's blood is shed.
That is the story of a brave Gryffindor, a girl so brave,
She gave her life so that her son she could save.
