Author's Notes:
JK Rowling owns Sir Cardogan and everything associated to Harry Potter.
Oh, the days when life was good,
When things were always as they should!
Oh, the times when people feared
When I-- Sir Cardogan appeared!
I'd come about, out with my sword,
"Come forth cowards! Come forward!"
And men would step up, those fools,
Clambering forth like wretched mules.
The duels-- they ended so quickly,
The men would fall, pleading for mercy.
I found no true challenge across the land.
Life-- it was so very grande.
But, alas, one day I stood,
(Head held high, like a knight should)
And called across the weary men,
Calling for an opponent (once again),
And then he stood, and then I saw
A bloody face, with skin so raw.
"My gentleman," I had told him,
"In such a state, surely you can't win?"
"Oh ho," he looked me in the eye,
"By this duel's end, you'll wish to fly."
Out came my sword, and in a flash,
His wand was out-- I stared, aghast.
"But my good sir, let me explain,
If we use wands, what shall we gain?
A brave man won't use magic tricks,
Only boys brandish toyish sicks.
Take out your sword, we men will duel,
No magic allowed-- the only rule."
If I had known, oh if only I did,
Then right then I would have hid,
For out came no sword, but very quick
He yelled so loud, his wand he did flick.
I knew right then, it was too late.
It was over, I knew my sword's fate.
It flew up-- oh, so very high,
Disappearing in the never-ending sky.
Another light-- and I did fall,
And so angry, I did call,
"I beg you sir, don't let this be,
Are you mad? Did you not hear me?
No magic, fool! I told you so!
You hapless man, inane foe!"
My pride so damaged, I did not think.
The horrid truth-- it did not sink.
Sir Cardogan, defeated? Oh ho!
Such a thing to happen? Oh no, no, no!
I was a hero, a man of honor.
I was positive that I was no goner.
And so when he slowly raised his wand,
I did nothing, did not respond
To his cackles, nor his obvious glee.
I did not even try to flee.
My head held high, I was not afraid.
I could have run, but alas, I stayed,
And then the dreaded curse was cast,
Making those moments my very last.
I'll haunt that cowardly man, the fool
With eyes so crazed and very cruel.
I'll haunt him 'til his very end,
No one escapes Sir Cardogan!
