It’s been seventy years.
Seventy years to the day.
And I sit here
The last of my friends
To be left upon the earth

Seventy years, and I’m still here
Waiting,
Waiting for the day,
I can see them once again.

Some of their ends were met
On that fateful day seventy years ago,
Others met theirs
Throughout the years.

I watched as they all left,
By their sides as they passed,
Holding their hands.

I’ve been waiting so long,
So, so long to see them again
My day is coming,
My day to meet the end.

I can feel the breath leave,
The heartbeat stop,
I close my eyes,
Here it comes.

I see them all again,
All smiling back at me,
My friends, my family.
And love penetrates my soul,
And I am content.
