Through the night, through the dark,
At the bottom of the heart,
There was light, there was hope,
There was love from the start.

They were foes, they were friends,
But his heart could take it not
Little light, little hope,
Though his heart was wrenched apart.

All his life, so he tried
To be an imprint in her heart,
Still there's light, still there's hope,
He loved her from the start.

He gave his love for her to plant.
He gave his hand so she could stand.
He gave his shoulder so she might cry.
He gave his mind for her insight.
He gave his heart. She died.
