A helpless cry
Fills the room.
My nerves are on edge,
As I glimpse his
Little face for the first time.

Is this the
Reason I left
My wife so many
Full moons ago?
I think to myself.
I left her,
My beautiful wife,
And then unborn child,
For the tiny life
Now wrapped in Dora’s hands?
What was wrong with me?

She places him in my arms,
Her face glowing with happiness;
He whimpers,
But it is the most wonderful sound
I’ve ever heard.

His skin is soft
To my gentle touch,
His hair a mop of dark brown,
His eyes a brilliant blue.

He is the most beautiful sight
I’ve ever seen.
I’m overcome
By my own happiness,
All fears forgotten
As I greet my beautiful boy,
My son.

The words sound perfect,
Yet still unreal,
As my precious Teddy Bear
Sleeps in mine and Dora’s arms,
As we are all family,
Content and at peace,
Happy as a family.

The family I’ve always yearned for,
The family I’d nearly stopped myself from having.

And the family I finally have.
