1. Black Laughter by Burning Star

Black Laughter by Burning Star
Author's Notes:
We all know what happened that night. We all know what it caused. But do we truly know how it felt?
Black

Night is black.
He prowls the streets at midnight;
Sometimes here, sometimes there.
Lurking in forgotten alleys
Watching the late shadows deepen,
Darken,
Against the flickering sky.
He howls defiance to the stars,
The heavens,
The unconstant goddess moon.
On he bounds, vengeance on his mind,
Through empty streets
And empty hopes
And empty hearts.
Alone
On his own.

His heart is black
They are gone.
One brief moment in the life of history,
Spanning a single breath...
They are gone.
His fault.
His words.
His idea.
His trust.
Nothing can bring them back
Nothing can move him on.
Vengeance.
He trudges on, still unsure,
Still so heavy with his thoughts.
Death stalks the night
Grim stalks the light.
A flash ahead
A small streak of lighter shadow
He leaps after the form.

His soul is black.
He deserves the coming pain, the eternity of guilt.
He betrayed them;
He must die.
The lumbering shadow rises, lengthens.
The trembling shadow rises to meet it.
Words,
Empty words.
A subtle movement
A splash of scarlet
A flash of green.
A bang-
He is gone.
Others,
Innocent victims,
Gone.
The day long since approached
Night is gone.
Vengeance is gone.
The traitor gone, but not for good.
The chance is gone...
Life is gone.

All is black.
The man throws back his head and laughs.
Darkness descends upon him
Completely cuts him off.
Nothing left
No way forward, no way back.
He stands.
They come for him; no second chances
No reasoning
No belief.
He throws back his head.
He laughs.
High above, the brightest star winks out
Into the morning
Into the mourning.
Above and below,
The dog star is enveloped
It is day.

He laughs, for all is still black.
All is black, blacker than ever.
He laughs.
