Author's Notes:
My first poem here, a simple rhyme, written in a ten-minute burst of creativity! Houses are presented in the order in which I wrote them.
SLYTHERIN
From ancient lineage and noble wizards past
Was our hallowed House sealed and our fortune cast:
To wear our green and silver, with pride like the conifer
Always to rise to the top, quick-witted and sure.
Survivors all, light on our toes,
Slipping through fissures just as they close.
Smooth like the snake, in our talk and in our manner,
Cunning, prudent and proud, and so we raise our banner
High to the heavens, together to always be
Slytherins forever; Hogwarts’ greatest House are we!

GRYFFINDOR
Boldly shall we sally forth
Though the wind is high and the waves they roar.
When danger rears its head, we shall not turn our face;
Honor we prize highly and wither from disgrace.
Wild as the twined heather on the broad moor
Mightiest and bravest of the Hogwarts Four.
Red and gold shine adventure’s true road
The lion of nobility, dignity our lode.
Gryffindor spells Hogwarts’ greatest House,
The bright flames of our spirit shall none ever douse.

RAVENCLAW
Truest are the minds that soar the highest
Knowledge our sole request, our asking most pious
Sharper than the eagle’s talon, his eyes, his beak,
To broaden the world around us all that we seek.
Balanced as the feather from an osprey’s wing
Graceful as fine bone china made by the Ming.
Carving through storm, gliding through brightest sky,
Through Ravenclaw’s lips shall never leave a lie.
Polished as the bronze of brave Achilles’ shield,
Greatest our House, in mountain, brook and field.

HUFFLEPUFF
Resourceful and reliant, our work ethic knows no bound,
Slow and steady wins the race we have often found.
For the surest of friends you need not look further;
None can claim to be more loyal, nor their hearts purer.
Never under Hufflepuff’s flag shall evil hold sway,
United and devoted, together we will stay.
Let all be equal, the downtrodden shown care;
Each who gathers here shall be mild, sweet and fair.
Humblest are we, and yet black and yellow greatest too:
Our tempers always tempered, our spirits always true.
