The Prophecy Complete

Sure on this shining night,
The winds of change have taken flight;
The stars shine bright upon the sight:
Of battle, fought and won.

A hero lost but later found
Appeared upon the hallowed ground,
And walked alone without a sound
To do what must be done.

With his family by his side,
Supporting him with love and pride,
He met his foe and cruelly died;
The prophecy complete.

But fate was not yet fully cast,
For he had not yet breathed his last.
He still had left one final task:
His enemy to meet.

So he returned to living hell
And cast his final, damning spell.
At last the Dark Lord finally fell;
His spirit passed away.

Sure on this shining night,
The winds of change have taken flight.
The sun shines bright with dawn’s first light
Upon a clear, new day.
End Notes:
I was at a concert listening to Samuel Barber’s setting of James Agee’s “Sure on This Shining Night” from Permit Me Voyagewhen it struck me that this line fit the night of Harry’s final battle rather well. So I borrowed the line for my own poem about that fateful night. You can read the original text, and listen to the Barber setting, on the PBS website, among many. I hope you enjoy my version.
