Divination by Magical Maeve
Summary: Herbert Reed wrote this, I just played with it. For the original please Google "The Naming of the Parts". Naturally, Herbert's is a much better poem.

1. Chapter 1 by Magical Maeve

Chapter 1 by Magical Maeve
Today we have Divination, Yesterday
We had Charms, and tomorrow morning
We shall have what to do after casting a spell. But today
We have Divination. Mallowsweet
Crawls across the greenhouses like summer,
And today we have Divination.

This is Astrology, and this is the
Interpretation of tea leaves, whose use you will see
In your sixth year. And these are Tarot Cards,
Which in your case you have not got. The white leaves
Spread outwards with their divinatory properties.
Which in our case we have not got.

This is the use of visions, which is always managed
With your mind’s eye. Please do not let me
See anyone trying to use their outer eye. You can do it
Quite easily if you have any strength in your mind. The flowers are
Creamy and motionless, never letting anyone see
Any of them using their outer eye.

And this, you can see, is seeing the future. The purpose of this
Is to be ahead of the game. We can follow this back
And forth. They call this nonsense. And rapidly, backwards and forwards,
The centaurs are fussing and fumbling with
The dried flowers of the Meadowsweet.
They call this nonsense.

They call it nonsense. It’s perfectly easy, Divination
If you have any strength in your mind, like Astrology,
smoke signals, the interpretation of tea leaves and Tarot cards,
which in our case we have not got. And the Meadowsweet is
going backwards and forwards across the greenhouses,
for today we have Divination.
