Summary: There are some memories of Hermione Granger's which she couldn't regret more. Modifying her parents' memories is one of them.

This was written for the Poetry Anyone Magic In Music Challenge. Thanks to Julia (the opaleye) for setting such a nice challenge; I had a lot of fun writing this!

Author's Notes:
The challenge was to write a poem based on a track from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. I chose "Obliviate" because it made me -- and Hermione -- cry, and any song that can do that to me in the first few minutes of a movie deserves respect, and, of course, a villannelle to go with it. :D

Even as my eyes fill with tears of regret,
I can barely bring myself to say that word I hate;
I know about me you will forget.

Even after all these years, I do fret;
But what needs to be done must be — it’s too late,
Even as my eyes fill with tears of regret.

Even if I haven’t even done the deed yet,
Hesitation is probably my best trait —
Still, I know about me you will forget.

Even though it’s for our very needs to be met,
I can't bear to begin the agonising wait;
Even as my eyes fill with tears of regret.

Even when my eyes are dripping wet,
I can barely keep my wand pointing straight,
And I know about me you will forget.

Even as I prepare myself, take a deep breath,
And say that one word, which I hate,
Even as my eyes fill with tears of regret,
I know about me you will forget.
