The Battle of Hogwarts

There were no beating drums that night,
No horns blasting through the air;
There was only an ancient school,
And the hundred of us who dared.

Statues awoke, brandishing armour,
The castle prepared to defend;
Yells and shouts of battle ensued,
Ready to fight to the end.

Yet Death Eaters were drawing near,
With giants and monsters in tow;
The air thickened with bloodlust,
As curses they readied to throw.

And so began the great battle,
The fight between evil and good,
Their beloved home blazing through
Eons of affray it had withstood.

The stars watched as the fighters raged,
As sons were killed and daughters lost,
As parents went down trying to save
The freedom that mattered the most.

Then came the hour of dark despair,
The Boy Who Lived was now no more;
Yet Neville swung his mighty Sword,
And brought hope back to the fore.

Soldiers rushed in, breaking the gates,
From the forest arrows rained;
Death Eaters were now beaten back,
Their Dark Lord was restrained.

Out came Harry, flinging his Cloak,
The final duel had arrived;
True master of the Elder Wand,
It was he whom love revived.

And love it was that won that night,
The eight-fold evil dead and gone;
In its wake we build the present,
And fifty heroes we still mourn.
