The Endless Road by Nagini Riddle
The Endless Road

The tidy front gardens so silent,
The details already fading
And rippling glass distorts familiar light,
Ruthlessly twinkling what's left behind.
The brass number four ever lonely
(Little, shrinking in the distance)
The neat, perfect house stands still,
Not revealing despair, nothing to trouble the mind.

Crumpling under the weight of the unknown
(Turning another listless corner)

Every memory, every moment ensconced there
(Clutching his beefy hand so nervously)
Smaller, smaller, just a pinprick on the horizon,
Never to return home once more;
Forced to accept terrible truths
(Danger lurking everywhere)
Steering into uncharted water,
Sobbing at the life discarded at the door.

Crumpling under the weight of the unknown
(Turning another listless corner)

Tentatively waiting, the road stretching onward
(Blonde hair slick with apprehension)
Glad, at least, to be safe in the relentless hours coming-
The future is ever so daunting.
Eyes seeking for something tangible
(Sweetheart, do not look back there)
A new life- drawing closer, closer;
Old ways strain to return, always haunting.

Crumpling under the weight of the unknown
(Turning another listless corner)

Staring forward, frozen, numb
As the dawn breaks through her view
The endless road never ending, leading on and on...
End Notes:
After writing this, I felt so bad for Petunia, and I came to appreciate the sacrifices she made, even if she wasn't always a pleasurable person.

What do you think of Petunia now?
