1. An Oath Forsworn by Equinox Chick

Author's Notes:

A villanelle about Firenze's dilemma.

For the herd, my oath is sworn,
But when the glimmering stars desist,
Rebellious dreams and thoughts are born.

In this strange half light of dawn,
Ignore the rumours that persist.
For the herd my oath is sworn.

And yet it nags, a festering thorn:
The chance for change, I canâ€™t resist;
Rebellious dreams and thoughts are born.

Rent apart, my loyalty torn,
Their ordered rule I canâ€™t resist.
For the herd my oath is sworn.

A choice to make, my heart forlorn;
As mind and soul began to twist,
Rebellious dreams and thoughts are born.

Left for dead, they do not mourn,
My forfeit life does not exist.
For the herd my oath was sworn,
Now rebellious dreams and thoughts are born.
