Paradeisos

Trimmed to perfection, hydrangeas
In full bloom sweeten the air,
Verdant blades of grass are tipped
With the golden sunlight.

Here, weeds are wild creatures from
African plains, tall and spotted
From an aging sun. Dandelions
Frame the flowerbed, large and bumbling
Like ostriches swaying with the
Slightest breeze.

The garden is an entry to the doll's house
Lacquered pure white, its barrier
An invisible picket fence known
Only to vermin. Even in weak
Moonlit rays, its succinct beauty
Shines, calling to the heavens for
Reward.

Here, puffskeins trip into gopher holes;
Gnomes glare at passersby; old boots,
Tin cans, and Muggle tools litter
The expanse. And in the night, snakes
Hiss, owls hoot, a rat or two skits by.
Yet here is home, earthly, warm, and
Messy- lived in. Here is truly
A young boy's paradise.
