1. On this day we shall rise. by the opaleye

On this day we shall rise. by the opaleye
On this day we shall rise
with this song and our sighs
for those we lost that May morn,
born on earth to save us,
with the lives they gave us.

This the doom we must endure,
A Yuletide grief without cure,
Hearts a hearth shall never warm,
Blood and bone they gave us,
Fifty souls to save us.

Their final gift merely death,
But for such alms we may draw breath,
No parcels from them ‘neath the tree,
Just the love they gave us
When they fell to save us.

Mortals all, what else are we?
Once were slaves but now are free
Yet that freedom paid a price,
And death was done to save us,
The silent hearts they gave us.

Frail bonds of mem’ries tie
Them to the earth and to our cries,
Forget we not their faces all
Or the song they gave us,
Their earthly echoes save us.

We do not bleed til day is done
When empty chairs make up the sum
Of all we lost and all we’ve won,
Light snuffed out to save us,
Yet one last wish they gave us:

Look up now into the night
This Christmas Eve with stars so bright!
Our hollow hearts now fill the sky
With fire burning in us,
And the hope they gave us.

On this day our hearts shall sing,
And with our song earth shall ring
for what we gained that May morn,
born on earth to save us
with the lives they gave us.
End Notes:

Thank you for reading :) A Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.
