The Show Must Go On

It is as though Time is cruel
as another victim slowly falls
to the marbled ground flooded
with wicked deeds, poor souls,
and the beat of the heart has vanished,
empty air filling up every void.
Crushing oblivion and guilt press harder
again... again... again...
Familiar faces become just a distant echo
in mind's memory
as every fatal spell ignites
the damaged arena-
But I... I must carry on.

No end is in sight, and anguish- pure anguish-
explodes within my aching ears,
a living nightmare while my will is slowly dying.
And though my soul- tainted, like
flesh on frozen steel- hollows out,
my part becomes all too clear.
Courage and determination flame within.
The show- it must go on.

Exerting calm serenity, I do welcome
my inevitable fate, like that of my ancestor,
walking into Death's outstretched hands,
to depart as equals from this very life-
for this final act cannot
have a hope to succeed
unless this show decides to
run its course, become whole and complete.
I must be the one to carry on.

A flick of the Wand of Destiny;
the rush of green light and speeding death;
all appears lost, finished, yet incomplete.
But it cannot be, for I alone
must fulfill my predestined role
or this act will never see fruition.
The show- it must go on,
And I must be the one
To lead it.
