the distance between my mouth and yours
should not be measured in miles of road or flight
or how many sleeps
or in how many breaths it takes to steady myself
when i think of you

the distance between our bodies should not be measured
in numbers; in letters; in safety
should not be measured in the time we have together or how much faster
my heart beats when i think of you

the distance between my hands and your hips
should not be measured in days, in hours, in seconds
i should not have to hide in order to be with you
we should not measure in terms of wins, of losses
you should not be with someone as unsafe but i cannot stop
myself when i start to think of you

is it wrong of me
to want you the way i want my tea

no milk
no sugar

just
instant.
