Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace

Harry looked at his new girlfriend as they sat under a tree on the school grounds and smiled. He was ecstatic inside.

“What is it?” Ginny asked him, noticing his prolonged stare. She cocked her head to the side. “Do I have something on my face?”

“Why, yes, you do actually. Let me get it.” Harry leant over and kissed Ginny for about the third time since they had left the Common Room’s busy party. He pulled her in closer and she put her hand on the side of his face. His insides were bursting as he kissed her. He loved the way she fitted into him perfectly, her contours matching his like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. He loved how she tasted, how she smelled; his senses were alive when they were together. The kiss lingered a little longer, but finally they broke apart.

“You naughty boy,” Ginny said, a devious smile playing on her lips. Harry grinned back and shrugged his shoulders. What was he supposed to do, stare at her? Okay, so he was doing a lot of that. But he wasn’t going to just do that. He wasn’t going to waste time. He did wish he could stop it, though, and make this moment last forever.

I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you

Now it was Ginny’s turn to do the staring. She was watching him with what looked like vast concentration. She was smiling slightly, and her eyes looked so full, deep; Harry had never seen them so big and beautiful. Ginny finally broke the silence.

“Why did you pick me today?” she pondered, her eyes still pools of deep brown.

“What do you mean?” Harry replied.

“Why did you kiss me today? You could have easily pushed me aside and gone for,” she snorted, “Romilda Vane.”

Harry laughed. “Because, well, I like you a lot, Ginny.” The two sat in silence for a while after that, neither of them exactly sure of what to say. Though it wasn’t an awkward silence. It was calm, just he and Ginny together. He felt completely at ease; nothing could distract him from this moment.

“You know,” Ginny said, again breaking the silence, “we can talk. We don’t have to act like ‘Won Won’ and Lavender and go about snogging all the time, you know.”

“Yeah, I know. But what’s to talk about?”

“Well, what’s been on your mind lately?” Ginny asked, smiling.

“You mean apart from you?”

“Oh, so you’ve been thinking about me, have you?”

“Yes,” Harry sighed, “a lot. I just hated seeing you with Dean. I didn’t feel like a brother to you anymore, it was more; it was…” he trailed off.

Ginny laughed, and then smiled broadly at him.

“What?” Harry asked, his brow furrowing slightly.

“You were jealous of Dean,” she giggled.

“No!”

“Yes! You just said it; you hated seeing him with me! You were jealous!”

“Fine. I was jealous. I said it,” Harry responded reluctantly.

“It’s okay that you were jealous. I was jeal”” she broke off, and then turned her head down slightly. “What else has been on your mind lately?” Ginny changed the subject.

There was so much on Harry’s mind lately; he didn’t know where to start or what to tell her. The Horcruxes, Malfoy possibly being a Death Eater, his secret missions with Dumbledore, being “the Chosen One,” there was so much to be said. But he trusted Ginny, he could talk to her, he had before. So he told her about what was going on, and continued until she was as informed as Ron and Hermione were on the situations at hand.

“Are you scared?” Ginny asked, when he had finished telling her about the Horcruxes, and Dumbledore’s intentions to bring Harry along with him to find the remainder of them.

“Am I scared?” he repeated, looking at her a little dazedly. He hadn’t really thought of that. The time hadn’t come yet for him to think about actually going off with Dumbledore, though he knew it would be happening soon enough. Deep in his heart he wasn’t scared, more nervous at what could come. But a part of him was resolute, and he knew what he had to face. “I don’t suppose I’m scared. I’m ready, I think. I guess when the time comes I’ll know.”

“Right. And what about being ‘The Chosen One’? You’ve got to be a little scared about that one,” Ginny said, eyeing him with a look of concern.

Harry wasn’t going to lie to himself. He was scared about what was to come. But he knew that even if he had to defeat Voldemort single-handedly, Dumbledore would be with him, helping him. “There’s really no way for me not to be scared about it,” he told Ginny sincerely. He wasn’t going to play the valiant hero for her, either; he knew she would understand completely.

“I’ll be with you every step of the way, you know,” Ginny said lovingly, giving him a light kiss on the cheek.

“Thanks,” Harry replied with a smile.

Dream of better lives the kind which never hate
Dropped in the state of imaginary grace
I made a pilgrimage to save this humans race
What I'm comprehending a race that long gone bye

Harry noticed that Ginny was still gazing at him with an enamoured look on her face. She lifted her hand, and placed it on top of his. He felt his heart give an extra bound at this.

“Do you think we ought to head back to the Common Room?” Ginny asked a little breathlessly. Harry was obviously not alone in his feeling of surprise at the two of them. He was happy, of course, but still surprised that they were actually going out.

“Yeah, I reckon so,” he replied. “You don’t want Ron thinking anything happened to you.”

“And what, might I ask, could happen to me while I’m with you?” Ginny asked playfully, getting up from her spot under the tree. Harry grinned at her slyly. “Never mind, then,” she said with a giggle, “I understand his worries.”

The two left their spot and continued to the castle hand in hand, throwing glances at each other quite frequently. Harry couldn’t have been happier at that moment. They entered the castle and walked to the portrait of the Fat Lady, and Ginny looked up at him, and then bit her lip. Harry lent down and stole one more kiss from her before they had to enter the real world once again.

As they kissed, he found that he was still having a hard time comprehending what was actually happening. There he was, separated from the world, with his girlfriend. And his girlfriend happened to be Ginny Weasley, his best mate’s sister, the girl who he thought he only had brotherly feelings for. It was a hard thing to believe, but it was reality. The thought made his head feel like it was filled with air, like he might float away.

There's nothing you and I won't do

Ginny pulled away from him after a few more moments, and she gazed up at him. “Let’s go in now.”

“Right,” Harry agreed with a smile. Together they walked into the Common Room to see that the party was still going on. It had barely fizzled, even after the few hours that it had been going for, and Harry supposed it would be like that for the rest of the night. It didn’t seem like anybody had noticed their entrance, and seeing as the entire house had seen Harry kiss Ginny, he wasn’t planning on making it a big scene.

They drifted into the crowed of Gryffindors, trying to keep a low profile and act as if they had been there for a much longer time than they actually had. Of course, everyone had seen them leave, but not many people saw them return. They could act like they had been there for a while. But it didn’t really matter. It was all still kind of a blur to Harry.

“There you are!” a voice called from behind Harry and Ginny. It was Hermione.

“Hi, Hermione!” Ginny said cheerfully. Hermione eyed the two, who were holding hands, and grinned broadly.

“What’s that all about?” Harry scowled. He’d guessed that Hermione had known about his crush on Ginny by the way she acted when Ginny had been around both of them, but he didn’t much appreciate her gawking at them like they were exhibits in a zoo.

“You know. But never mind. You were gone for an awfully long time,” Hermione continued.

“Yeah, you were.” This time it was Ron, who had butted into the conversation. “What were you two up to?”

“Oh, grow up, Ron!” Hermione snarled. “Trust your sister for once. And your best friend, too, for goodness sake!” She huffed loudly, and then walked away, shaking her head.

Ron swallowed and looked to the floor. “Sorry mate, it’s just,” he looked at Ginny, who was now talking to Parvati.

“I understand,” Harry said quickly.

“Thanks. I mean, I’d rather her be with you than any other of them,” Ron said, his ears turning a light shade of red.

“Don’t worry about it, Ron. I understand. She is your sister.” He found that it was really odd to say that out loud.

“Just…just try not to make anything too public,” Ron said, cringing.

“Like you and Lavender, you mean?” Harry joked.

“Yeah, er, I mean….” Ron’s ears turned a brighter shade of red.

“So, it’s too bad I missed the game,” Harry said quickly, changing the subject as to not inflict any more uncomfortable feelings for Ron.

“Yeah, it is,” Ron said, his face perking up a bit. “It was great. I think we played the best today out of the whole season.”

“I don’t doubt it,” Harry responded. The two boys spent a long time reliving the Quidditch match, when Harry looked at the clock to see that it was nearing dinner time. The Common Room, too, looked as though it had emptied quite a bit, with students leaving for the Great Hall.

Harry decided that he was indeed beginning to get hungry, so he suggested to Ron that they go to the Great Hall so they wouldn’t miss anything. He went and found Ginny first, to let her know. “Ron and I are going to head down to the Great Hall,” Harry whispered in her ear after he had found her, and then kissed her on the cheek. “Do you want to come with us?”

“Of course,” Ginny responded, then looked up and kissed Harry lightly on the lips. It sent shivers down his spine. “But what about Hermione?”

“I actually haven’t seen her,” Harry pondered. “I’m sure she’ll get down there eventually.”

“Right,” Ginny said. The two walked over to Ron, and coming upon him, dropped hands, just so they wouldn’t cause any awkward feelings. Then the three of them left the Common Room for the Great Hall. As they entered, it was already filling with students, and Harry, Ron, and Ginny found seats at the Gryffindor table. “I’ll leave one for Hermione,” Ginny informed, as she scooted over one to make an extra seat to the left of her. Harry smiled as her kindness, but Ron rolled his eyes.

After a few moments the Hall was mostly filled, but Hermione was still not present. Harry wondered where she was, but he had a hunch that Ron had made her angry again. Dumbledore stood after a second or two and began his pre-dinner words.

“I would like to congratulate the Gryffindor Quidditch Team for winning the House Cup for the second year running,” Dumbledore began, and applauded them, the rest of the school following. “So, this meal is a toast to their success! Tuck in!” Dumbledore sat, and the food appeared on the tables as usual. Ron began shoveling enormous amounts of food on to his plate, and Ginny looked in disgust at him.

“Where does he keep it all?” she whispered to Harry.

“Dunno,” Harry shrugged.

“And where’s Hermione?”

“I was wondering the same thing.”

“I suppose Ron upset her,” Ginny shot a look to her brother. “Those two have really been at each other lately.”

“You’re telling me,” Harry sighed. He really wished that his best friends would reconcile this; it had been going on for far too long.

During dinner, Harry could not help but look at Ginny. He had some strange, warm feeling about him now that they were going out. He felt accomplished, too, like he had really earned something worth having. He was incredibly happy, probably the happiest he had felt all year, and they had only been going out a few hours. Things were bound to get better.

Once dinner had ended, the three of them walked back to the Common Room. Harry allowed his hand to brush next to Ginny’s, resisting the urge to actually grab hold of it. She looked up at him, her eyes showing that she felt the same. But Harry was going to follow Ron’s wishes, and wait a little longer until Ron was more stable with the their relationship before displaying affection in front of him.

Upon coming to the Common Room entrance, Ron spoke the password and went inside, but as Harry began following him, he felt Ginny pull him back.

“What, did you think you would get away from me that easily?” she said playfully.

“No… Of course not. Why would I want to get away from you?”

“I didn’t think so,” Ginny said with a smile, and then tilted her head up and kissed him. Harry wrapped his arms around her, and she let him deepen their kiss. Why did he wait so long to decide on his feelings for her? Why did he have to waste his time on Cho last year? How could he have ever wanted to miss this, being with Ginny, the one person who, after a little time of realizing, seemed to fit with him perfectly? Well better now than never…

The future’s open wide…

After a few more moments of snogging, they ushered themselves into the Common Room, where they took a seat on the couch next to Hermione, who was glaring intently at Ron, holding a conversation with Seamus.

“What’s that look all about?” Ginny asked her, taking Hermione out of her sort of trance.

“He… Never mind,” she replied, shaking her head.

“Where were you at dinner?” Harry asked, seeing the tension in Hermione’s eyes.

“Library. I had some extra homework to finish.”

“Right,” Harry nodded.

“I think I’m going to go to bed,” Hermione said rather hurriedly. Harry said goodnight to her, and she excused herself from the chair.

“Wait,” Ginny said to Hermione, and left her spot next to Harry and caught Hermione at the bottom of the girls’ dormitory stairs. Ginny whispered something in Hermione’s ear, Hermione nodded, and then left for bed.

Ginny turned to go back to Harry, but was stopped on the way by a shrewd looking Romilda Vane. Harry couldn’t help but smirk at the look on the girl’s face as she pulled Ginny aside. It looked as though she was telling Ginny something fairly important; she was bouncing her head around and using her hands a lot. Then, he saw, and heard, Ginny let out a large laugh, and Romilda’s eyes narrowed some. After Ginny had finished laughing, Harry saw her mouth move again, and Romilda’s eyes grew very wide with what looked like surprise. She turned quickly to the group of friends that were standing behind her, and Ginny made her way back to Harry.

“I’m going to go to bed,” Ginny said before Harry could ask what Romilda wanted, anyway.

“All right, then,” Harry responded, and kissed his girlfriend lightly on the cheek. He watched as she disappeared up the staircase, and smiled to himself. He was at ease.
