I can’t tell her how I feel.
No, we could never be.
When I pass her in the halls,
I can see it in her eyes,
The pain she feels.
No one must ever know.
I’m up in bed, I’m all alone.
Then I heard a sound.
Outside the night air’s chilly,
Still her letters never cease.
I’ll write to her just one last time,
Before I go to sleep.
But I won’t tell her that I love her,
I mustn’t tell the truth.
Nor will I tell her I miss her,
Though these are all just lies.
Lies, I have to tell myself to stay alive.
I’ll tell her that I’m sorry
For all the pain I caused her.
I’ll tell her that I never meant to hurt her.
All the things I said were lies.
And if she really loves me,
She will understand why.
Why this must be the final time,
as we must say good-bye.
I’m finished. Its done.
I’ll send it off, then go to bed,
And as I close my eyes,
I’ll dream of her this one last time.
And let her know it’s not good-bye.
