Draco's Roses
One amaryllis red as blood
In the centre of everything.
Twelve roses black as night
And the hope of you listening.
To tell the story of you and me
A posy of thoughts and history.
To tell the tale of looking back
I’ll start with roses of black.
One for eyes of steely grey
Two for hair so blonde.
Three for skin so pale and fair
Four for how I longed.
I thought we’d be handsome together.
Five for the hatred we maintained
Six for knowing at last.
Seven for looking and yearning
Eight for the years that past.
I thought we’d be precious together.
Nine for going behind others backs
Ten for the forbidden love we shared.
Eleven for standing alone in the end
Twelve for how you never cared.
I thought we’d be evolving together.
There is one flower placed in the middle
In contrast to the rest.
It represents the grief and hope
I’m releasing from my chest.
I thought we’d be endless together;
I was sadly mistaken.
