He was a boy,
just a boy like any other.

As a child he played;
his dreams were filled
with knights and fiery dragons.
Evil wizards by the dozen
fell to their knees for his mercy.
Even in pretend he could not kill.

He was a boy,
just a boy like any other.

A letter came when it was time,
and whisked him far from all he knew.
And deep in Hogwart’s heart he’d learn
who he was, and what he was,
and why he’d do the things he’d do.
A Hufflepuff, through and through.

He was a boy,
just a boy like any other.

And as he grew both strong and true,
his mind unfurling like a flower,
there came a time to prove to all his worth.
With trembling hand his name he wrote,
yet wrote it proud and strong. And hoped,
beyond all hope, he was the one.

He was a boy,
just a boy like any other.

Through each task, and through each test,
compassion and justice stayed his hand;
even so far as relinquishing the tempting glory.
Past all his doubts and fears he strived,
and side by side, compatriots at last,
they shared the prize of all they had partook.

He was a boy,
just a boy like any other.

And yet, in the end, nobility could not save him.
A flash of light and all was dark and still.
He’d never live, he’d never see
the final edge of victory. A hero,
a casualty, the first fallen one. For all his love,
his heart, his light, his life was gone.

He was a boy,
Just a boy- yet unlike any other.
