Metronome

(da-DUM-da-DUM)

What faith has harnessed to the jaws of man,
to shrinking scars of love and fellowship,
that flinches with the metronome of hope?

If masters, who define the terms of dreams,
could once defy their self importance they
might weigh your presence deep in golden clout.

(What faith has harnessed to the jaws of man
that flinches with the metronome of hope?)

Those days left gone in fall’s November rain
should duel like music, loud within my ears,
and churn nostalgia from my hopeless form.

And if forever could condense to days,
a chance should spit at those who doubt its luck
and thoughts should die which gamble through my brain.

If lies could linger, tying to their source,
my pretense would be tangled with the rope,
for faith has harnessed to my thoughts and dreams
which flinches with the metronome of hope.
