Chapter Notes: This poem was written to parallel the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. You can read the original poem at: http://www.math.luc.edu/~vande/jabtext.html

Heliopath

‘Twas summer, and a dreamy girl
Did to her father listen well;
He told her tales of misty vales,
Where animals did dwell.

“Beware the Heliopath, my dear!
With fiery wings upon it’s back!
Beware the Wrackspurt, and avoid
The Crumple-Horned Snorkack!”

She placed her wand behind her ear,
And off she went to seek --
The creatures seen within her dreams,
Strange beasts both cruel and meek.

And then, while pensively she stood,
The Heliopath ablaze appeared;
Its wings were flame, its eyes the same,
And smoke poured from its ears.

One, two! One, two! Again she cast
Her spells upon its leathery hide.
It gave a yell, and down it fell
To land upon on its side.

“My dear, you found the Heliopath!
Come to my arms, my beautiful girl!
I’ll cry out loud, for I’m so proud!”
He then gave her a twirl.

‘Twas summer, and a dreamy girl
Did to her father listen well;
He told her tales of misty vales,
Where animals did dwell.

A/N: This piece was inspired by some of the recent poetry challenges. For some reason I picture the Heliopath with flaming wings. My rhyme scheme differs slightly from the original because I wanted to challenge myself to find that double rhyme in the third line of each stanza (sans the second.) Many thanks to Cheshlin for beta-reading it so quickly!
