This is my take (in Petrarchan sonnet form) of the type of struggle Snape would have encountered in deciding to join the ranks as spy for the Order....enjoy!
Whither will my fate show me the way through?
To murder – is that the answer I seek?
When Death callèd me to silence the weak,
With the raise of my wand, Death does imbue.
A Death Eater’s mask reveals my true hue,
The Dark Mark, a brand of my fate so bleak,
With fire and magic, my havoc did wreak,
Merciless killing my Lord did pursue.
He cannot protect me from his own wrath,
Nor the rage of others wishing me dead.
Rescue me from the chains that consume me,
I must move softly away from his path.
Into the light from the darkness I tread,
Hark! I come forth – a new man – I am free!
