Chapter Notes: I scribbled this poem, half-sobbing, while I was reading Deathly Hallows. While it was written with Snape in mind, it could take on a variety of meanings. I hope you enjoy it.
The greatest of heroes
Revels not in the glory
Of the all-gleaming sword
As the world cheers him on.

In the ongoing fight
Against sinister faces
No pedastal waits
To have him thrust upon.

The greatest of heroes,
His pedastal torn down,
Builds one for himself
Out of soundness of mind.

While ignorance jeers
Screeching "traitor" and "coward"
The truth makes him push on
Protecting the blind.

The greatest of heroes
Has one goal: the light
And the truth people fear;
For a time he's alone.

But his prize is the lives
Of the ones he protected
And glory eternal
When he returns home.
