I walked this road many years ago,
No idea what lay ahead.
Though the carnations have long since wilted away,
The memories are here to stay.
I was walking along one afternoon in Spring,
Nargles buzzing in my head,
When he came and took me by the hand
And said this wasn't what he had planned.
The clouds floated by
In a September sky
Though it was the middle of May.
And I saw a mirage of Harry green
In the reflection of my eye.
The next words spoken
Left my mind broken,
So I didn't know what to say.
He told me he loved me
And reached down to hug me,
But I think I just walked away.
The carnations begged me,
"Please come back!"
But I think I just walked away.
The sky turned December
In the middle of May
As I pondered what he had said:
He told me he loved me
And reached down to hug me,
I think I love him back.
Though no words can describe
How I felt inside,
I know I had to turn my back.
For what is love amongst the carnations
To love amongst the world?
Would he still love me,
Would he still want me,
When my back was turned?
So many years ago,
On that very dirt road,
I picked a single carnation.
On the petals I blew
And whispered to them,
"My heart is here to stay.".
I walked this road many years ago,
No idea what lay ahead.
Though the carnations have long since wilted away,
My heart is here to stay.
