The monster embraces my body
. . . and I stand still though I should flee.
Scales graze my skin
. . . and I try to fight but I can’t win.
Fangs slice my features
. . . and inside me, something stirs.
Treachery travels through my veins
. . . and I can see all my bloody stains.
Pain captures my scream
. . . and I see his scarlet eyes gleam.
Sorrow drowns out my future
. . . and of my fate, I am sure.
Evil departs the scene
. . . and the boy arrives, unseen.
Before me stands a hero of mankind
. . . and the memories stream from my mind.
Darkness creeps into my sight
. . . and I hope I’ve made things right.
I plead for him to look me in the eye
. . . and hope he’ll see the truth before I die.
Green eyes stab into my heart
. . . and I feel all my hope depart.
Only then, am I
afraid.
